Tim Hudson was rock solid in his Giants regular season debut shutting down the D'Backs into the 8'th inning and gaining the W. Key Lines:
Angel Pagan- 2 for 5, SB(1). BA= .357. Pagan led the way in this game driving in the go-ahead run in the 5'th inning and adding 2 terrific catches in CF.
Tim Hudson- 7.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K. ERA= 0.00. Hudson was terrific. He had full command of all his pitches and dominated into the 8'th inning. He probably would have completed 8 were it not for Adrianza letting a soft liner go through his glove for an error to start the inning.
Ehire Adrianza- 0 for 3, BB. BA= .200 If we are going to mention Adrianza's error, it's only fair to point out that he drew a tough walk with 1 out in the 5'th, was sacrificed to second by Huddy and driven in by Angel Pagan to give the Giants their go-ahead run. He also had an 10 or 11 pitch AB later in the game. I ended on a pop fly to CF, but whenever you force an opposing pitcher to throw that many pitches in 1 AB, you've helped your team.
Michael Morse- 1 for 3, 2B. BA= .222 Morse's double drove in the insurance run in the 6'th and he crushed it! Laserbeam liner to dead CF. It never got too far off the ground, but it got on the CF so quickly, he basically did not have time to react and catch it. Definitely one of the hardest hit balls you will see.
If the rest of the evening plays out as expected, the Win puts the Giants in sole possession of second place in the NL West, 1 game behind the Dodgers who are beating the Padres 5-1. The Padres slip into a tie for 3'rd place with the Rockies who beat Miami 6-5 while the D'Backs fell to 1-4, 3 games behind the division leaders.
Tim Lincecum faces Giants nemesis Bronson Arroyo tomorrow afternoon trying to go 3-1 on the series.
Minor League Season starts tomorrow. We'll have Down on the Farm summaries daily.
Around the League: Billy Beane is being reminded by Jim Johnson's 2 Blown Saves why it's not a good idea to spend a lot of money on a closer with a lot of Saves and bad peripheral stats.
Scouting the Draft: HS hitter Joe Dunand, ARod's nephew, hit 8 HR's in 8 AB's recently. The Giants were reportedly one of the teams to send a scout to check him out.

Hopefully, Timmy and the rest of the Giants staff were watching Hudson pitch. Keep Hitters Off Balance - down, away, in/out, just a beautifully pitched game. No need to over throw, just control your pitches.
ReplyDeleteNice to see Goldy and Trumbo flailing.
Damn that infield at Chase field is hard - feels like missing a payment on your Chase card, watching your rate double, and get hit with a $39 late fee.
Morse seems to have some holes in his swing. Chasing the elevator and not finding/laying off that high and inside pitch. Still when he gets a hold of a pitch it's loud contact. Hit a few and pitchers will have to respect his power.
Pablo is taking pitches and walks? .182 AVG / .308 OBP / .182 SLG LOL
Timmy please take a selfie with Huddy. And then go out and pitch like him.
huddy is what zito was supposed to be
ReplyDeleteif (ya, overused word) he can take the rigors of the long season, 1-3, very strong
and now we turn to the 2 big question marks in the rotation
but i have faith
and dang, morse really scorched that double....all that guy needs to do is make solid contact....maybe he needs to invest in glasses

Huddy was text book on pitching with an 88-90 2 seamer. Very nice slide piece to got with split and change. That's the template for Lincecum, all he has to do is execute. Too bad they are back to back. It would be nice to slide a lefty between them.
ReplyDeleteNice ABs by Adrianza. May not be long before he's everyday at 2nd.
Jim Johnson doesn't seem to have his hard and heavy fastball yet. Give him time, A' fans. S happens.
Happy Minor League Opening Day !
Huddy brings some mental toughness that needs to rub off on the staff! That was a big time performance, now we leave with at least a split.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your minor league summaries.
Starters today are Kickham, Blach, Stratton and Chase Johnson. Woo Hoo!!!!
DeleteHoo! Little Giants opening up in Rancho Cucamonga. Darn! I have to work all weekend! It's gonna be nippy tonight, but maybe I can get out to the game tonight and see Stratton? I'll have to think about it.
DeleteMaybe I'll head out and see... oh wait, I live in Montana!... Incredibly jealous of you right now. Hopefully Stratton finds his groove early.
DeleteDocB
Delete1. Take a long lunch and watch the Big Boys today,
2. Stay up late and cheer the Little Gs and Stratton tonight
Sounds like a plan to me.
I'll be out at RC. Let me know if you're going!
DeleteWe seem to be error-plagued to open the season, very uncharacteristic (as the error making are deemed to be pretty good on the field), while we hope to improve over last year's defense.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, we settle down after this initial, small turbulence.
giants opened in rancho?
ReplyDeletewell, i messed up
was in covina, working
i was thinking, should i just check?
thing is....im zonked
maybe ill go to sunday's game
