Madison Bumgarner has had better pitching starts, but oh my! What a night he had at the plate: Grand slam HR and a sacrifice fly that came within inches of clearing the fence. The Giants then hung on to hold off the Rockies. Key Lines:
Brandon Crawford- 1 for 2, 3B, BB. BA= .303. Crawford stays hot and is indispensable in this win.
Madison Bumgarner- 1 for 1, HR(1), SF. BA= .667. Bummy got absolutely all of his grand slam shot with full extension on the follow-through. The ball landed half way up the left-CF bleachers. He knew it was gone and did a nice slugger's bat toss and admired it for just a brief moment. The SF was hit almost as good and was caught up against the wall.
Madison Bumgarner- 6 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 7 K. ERA= 3.31. Not quite a QS but Bummy picked himself up at the plate and oh, how he did that!
Sergio Romo- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, Save(3). ERA= 2.25. Tulo was infuriated by his called third strike, but it was definitely a strike.
Pablo Sandoval cost the Giants an unearned run in the 8'th with another throwing error. This has to be a growing concern.
The Win improved the Giants early season record to 7-4 and kept them tied for first place with the Dodgers as the D'Backs returned to their losing ways against dem Bums 6-0. The Rockies fell to 2 games off the pace. Andrew Cashner pitched a complete game shutout against the Tigers in San Diego to keep the Padres 2.5 games behind in 4'th place while the hapless D'Backs fell to 4-9, 4 games behind the leaders.
Matt Cain is the starting pitcher for game 2 of the series facing Brett Anderson.

Good thing Bumgarner was in the lineup last night, because nobody else was providing any offense with Posey and Pagan on the bench! I know Boch wanted to get them some rest, but the lineup was pretty flat without those two in there. I have no problem sitting Posey after a long game, but Pagan had hit safely in every game this year. Minor stuff, but like I said, w/o MadBum's bat it would have been a pretty easy Colorado win last night.
ReplyDeletePosey did not sit out the second game of the last Arizona series; otherwise, there would have been more speculation about Posey and Lnicecum.
ReplyDeleteScoring continues to be solid. Pitching needs to step up.
