Abreu homers in his second consecutive game. He stays in the game this time! The pitching wasn't terrific or terrible. SLC is a tough place to pitch with elevation and dry air.

Meh start for Marte. Hall gets the Save Opp. Matt Duffy!

Definitely not the lines we're hoping to see from Stratton or Vander Tuig, although NVT likely won't be a big K guy in the pro's (he wasn't in college). I'm afraid Flores and Gregorio will pass Stratton by if he doesn't up his game. Agosta on the 7-day DL... Conner P had video of him pitching just a few weeks ago. He looked fine to me!
ReplyDeleteAgosta 7 day DL...this seems to be the year, pitchers out for various lengths of time.
DeleteHall got the save, but giving up 2H and 1BB is not clean.
I have a feeling that Doctor B isn't surprised with these type of outcomes by NVT.
ReplyDeleteGive Stratton a mulligan, right? Or did he use those up last year? I gather Lancaster is rough, being in the high desert and all (if that area is even called the high desert).
Yes, it is the high desert and it is a tough place to pitch, although the scores in the first two games of the series have been low.
DeleteVander Tuig is the type of college pitcher who often does not do well in the pros, although some do, so too early to write him off.
DeleteThanks Doc, I had to look that up. It was a bit confusing for me as the High Desert Mavericks are in play too. Looks like about an hour drive from Lancaster to Adelanto.
DeleteLancaster is a long ways from my neck of the woods. Probably a full 2 hour drive. It's up the 14 Freeway which cuts off the 5 just as you start heading up into the mountains to go over the Grapevine. Very high desert and very windy!
DeleteStratton started well keeping a hard fastball down in the zone, but the wheels fell off and he started getting torched. Couple errors at first that didn't help him. Ragira didn't seem very inspired to stop bad throws from getting past him.
ReplyDeleteAlso, has anyone noticed Ben Turner's size (SJ catcher). 6'5" 220. Like having Brandon Belt strap on the gear.
AnVil!!! And Stratton looks like he got BABIPed, did nice with his peripherals, 4 K's and only 1 BB in 5 IP is not bad (not great either, but not bad).
ReplyDeleteSorry, not impressed by Stratton's peripherals.
