Dr. B, Mac Williamson was 2-5 in the San Jose Giants game yesterday.
ReplyDeleteWilliamson is getting healthy, throwing, raking. He'll be in Richmond soon.
DeleteOkay, the actual stat on Mac for yesterday is that he went 2-3 with a walk and 2 rbi. And yeah, he's definitely seeing the ball better and raking, which is awesome after the slow start. But he started slow last year and turned it around for a solid season, so there's that.
DeleteJust hope his UCL is healing up and he moves on to Richmond soon to continue developing. I believe the plan was to only DH him for 3-4 weeks to rehab the elbow, and giving him the bump if all went well.
Good to see Horan hitting this well. Bednar is doing great, they have been Augusta's two big hitters so far. I like the Giants mixing in the college guys with the yoots. Jeremy Sy is heating up as well after a slow start.
ReplyDeleteHey - What's up with Arroyo not having much of a season to this point? We haven't seen his name is the highlights at all.
ReplyDeleteIs he simply a little too young for the league, and hence the significant struggles in the 1st half?

Delete"Christian Arroyo:
Arroyo started at shortstop to give Ryder Jones the day off. The plan is to give each a day off every five days, so it works to where Arroyo starts at shortstop on Jones' days off.
This is my first time seeing Arroyo at the position, but he's the best defensive option they have there. There were reports after the draft stating Arroyo might have to move off shortstop in the future, but after watching him in this game, it's my opinion that he was moved off it too soon. He showed better range than advertised, he has good enough hands, and his arm and release are well-suited for the left side. Arroyo might not have major league range at shortstop, but I think they should keep him at the position until he plays himself off it.
Arroyo's bat is still struggling to come around. He's not striking out, because he makes contact all the time, and sometimes it's pretty hard. But he either finds a defender with a line drive or pounds it into the ground. He has the hit tool to succeed, but he's not squaring up as often as he needs to right now. Arroyo is very young and has all the time to make adjustments, though, so this is merely current observation and not an evaluation."
I pooped today!
Congrats !
DeleteHmm, if Arroyo's SS skills don't project to the bigs, it makes little sense (at least to me) to keep him at the spot exclusively. With that scenario, he could potentially be forced to make some big defensive adjustments in a new spot in a short time (and at the highest levels of the minors) for the Giants to be able to get his bat in the lineup. Additionally, he'll likely grow a bit taller and thicker over the next couple of years, which would affect his speed and range.
DeleteJust my opinion, but playing him all over the infield throughout his minors stint will better prepare him for the possibilities and increase his value, even if he pans out as a super-utility guy. And a well-paid one at that.
Doc, as for the Fresno area rain, I can tell you that at 1700+ elevation we had rec'd 7.5 inches of rain prior to yesterday - for the whole season (avg. should be around 24) . Just yesterday we received 1.75" or more than 20%. Double dip in the 'No.
ReplyDeleteGotta think that Okert is gonna get the AA promo early/mid summer. A Lefty with his control and premium velocity is not going to be challenged down there in SJ. I know most consider his upside to be a hard throwing lefty specialist with a death to lefties slider, but imo, that sounds awesome! I LOVE seeing 95+mph on the screen, and will love it even more when that slider is used on Andrea Ether, Adriana Gonzo.
ReplyDeleteWe are going to have some serious pen talent kicking on the doors in a couple of months. Law is making the eastern league look stupid, Hembree is proving he has nothing more to learn in Fresno, and the above mentioned Okert has A+ hitters over matched.
Gar deck is another hard thrower who is performing well in SJ.
ReplyDelete...er Gardeck.
