Eric Surkamp, meet Mr. Votto. Bam! How ya doin, kid? Actually, most of the damage was done by the bottom of the Reds' lineup, but Eric Surkamp got treated roughly by a very tough lineup and the Giants got blown out for the 2'nd consecutive game. Key Lines:
Eric Surkamp- 2.2 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 0 BB, 0 K. ERA= 23.63. Back to Fresno to continue his rehab. Maybe a recall in September?
Yusmeiro Petit- 5.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 3.38. I tuned into the game for awhile while Petit was pitching and he showed some surprisingly good stuff. Might be worth keeping around awhile to see if it's for real this time.

I liked Petit's numbers last season, and was disappointed that he started the year on the DL, as I thought that he would be a good 6th starter stashed in AAA.
ReplyDeleteWith Gaudin looking like he's going to be one of our starters next season, perhaps it will be Petit's turn to be long relief in 2014.
Oh, and I hope so about Surkamp. That the Giants gave him the start instead of Petit seems to sugggest to me that Surkamp will get a call up, both to give him more MLB experience so that he's more acclimated to MLB life and to give him more innings since the minors will be shut down by then.
