The Giants unleashed a ferocious offensive attack to support the pitching of Madison Bumgarner for the runaway victory. Key Lines:
Marco Scutaro- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .301. Scutaro showed last year that he can keep this going for a long time. Hitting .462 over his last 10 games, .472 over 9 games in the month of May, .488 in 11 games since his BA hit a nadir of .215 on 4/28.
Pablo Sandoval- 1 for 3, HR(5), HBP. BA= .315. Sandoval had been in a bit of a power slump but busted out of it today with the dinger. Everybody got a scare when he was HBP on the wrist, but is reportedly OK.
Buster Posey- 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB. BA= .296. Buster played 1B today against the LHP Maholm. He continues to be a rock in the middle of the Giants lineup.
Hunter Pence- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .291. Pence is having more success this year not trying to jerk everything out of the park.
Gregor Blanco- 2 for 2, 2B, 3B. BA= .287. Blanco hit a bases loaded, bases clearing double in the 5'th inning pinch-hitting for Pegs when the Braves brought in a RHP to relieve Maholm. That broke this one open giving Bumgarner a 6-1 lead. The White Shark is hitting .323 with an OBP of .382 over his last 10 games.
Guillermo Quiroz- 1 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .250. Quiroz has been solid as a backup C for Posey.
Brandon Crawford- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .270. Crawford's hits came against LHP Maholm. He now has a 5 game hit streak in which he is 8 for 19.
Madison Bumgarner- 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 11 K's. ERA= 2.18. Dominant pitching from Bummy today. He didn't need 10 runs of support but this game showed what this team is capable of when hitting on all 8 or 12 cylinders.
The Win enabled the Giants to maintain at least a tie for first place in the NL West pending the outcome of the D'Backs/Phillies contest. The Rockies got shut out by the Cards for the second game in a row, 3-0, to fall 2.5 games off the pace in 3'rd place. The Padres lost their game to the Rays 8-7 to fall 5.5 games back. The Dodgers are leading the Marlins 3-0 midgame as they try to hang onto a 7 game deficit in last place.
Tim Lincecum tries to extend the Giants win streak to 3 games tomorrow afternoon facing Kris Medlin who burst on the scene last year but has struggled so far this season albeit with a pretty good 3.25 ERA.

After the first high strike called against Uggla, Bumgarner struck out 10 in a row on swings and misses, I counted what looked like 5 that hit the dirt before reaching Quiroz.
ReplyDeleteWhat I was most impressed with was Bumgarner's composure with Quiroz behind the plate. Looked like the whole game was going through signs with Bumgarner basically shaking off everything until he got what he wanted. Been a fan a long time, but that is usually not a great recipe for success, but it was today!
If Crawford hits .270 for the season with the occasional pop we've seen and the obvious shift of teams putting a premium on D as SS again, Giants may want to think about buying out some arb years + with him in the near future.
