SS?
ReplyDeleteJCP is starting to make me think of Lenny Harris or Bill Hall. I would be happy with either of those out of him.
Wasn't Jeff Arnold a highly thought of catching prospect signed out of the IFA market? I recall that you thought quite a lot of him early on, but an article I just browsed over mentioned that he's mostly a "defensive-minded" catcher.
ReplyDeleteI also thought for a second that it was AA he was playing in, but it's a different story putting up those "nice" numbers at San Jose.
And in addition to catcher, it really appears that SS has a whole slew of guys hitting real well in the system. Which of the players out of Jurica, etc. do you really see as prospects?
I don't remember where they got Jeff Arnold from. I thought he was a low round draft pick. Definitely not international FA. Could have been signed as an undrafted FA at some point. I think he is seen more as a defensive/future reserve C.
DeleteAs for SS's, I think Adrianza is still a prospect due to superior defensive tools and skills. I really like what we've seen from Matt Duffy, but he's gonna have to do it at a higher level than low A.
DeleteDidn't Marlowe use to strike out and walk a lot of guys in college?
ReplyDeleteI should add Kendry to the starters-doing well-list that includes Agosto.
Strickland is going to get a promotion soon. That is looking like a stealthy pickup. Build the guys confidence, send him to the Eastern!
ReplyDeleteHeston is getting some K's, I think that is an encouraging sign, as he is always a pitch to contact guy.
Juan Perez is a sneaky prospect. If he can stick in the IF/OF, he is extremely valuable.
I have certainly noticed Strickland's numbers so far, and am glad he is doing it. However, he was an established AA guy with the Sox, so to see him dominate A+ is kinda meh in my book.
DeleteThey tried a similar approach with Main a couple years back, but he kinda blew up in SJ...
I was encouraged after reading the recap of the Augusta ballgame by their beat writer David Lee that although Stratton's line wasn't impressive, his stuff was excellent.. He recorded 11 swinging strikes and 11 groundballs, his best in a game so far, and showed 2 variations of breaking balls that he was locating on both sides of the plate. Maybe a pitcher like Stratton who has good stuff & good command of his breaking pitches has a chance to move quickly through the Giants minor league system.
