Game Wrap 4/2/2013: Giants 3 Dodgers 0

The Giants peppered Dodger Stadium with 10 hits off Korean Rookie Hyun-Jin Ryu but came away with just 3 runs to show for it.  That was more than enough as Madison Bumgarner and Sergio Romo shut out the Dodgers on just 2 hits.  Key Lines:

Joaquin Arias- 2 for 4.  BA= .400.  Arias got the start at 1B when Brandon Belt came down with a bad case of lefthanded flu(just kidding, it was a stomach ailment).  He contributed to 2 of the Giants 3 runs with a Run Scored and RBI.

Madison Bumgarner- 8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 9/3.  ERA= 0.00.  Masterful performance by Bummy who looked plenty strong, country strong!  Velocity up to 93 early in the game and still hitting 91 late.  He had a full complement of secondary pitches to go with it as well as his trademark terrific command.

Sergio Romo- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(1). ERA= 0.00.  Romo's first Save.  He dispatched the Dodgers in short order including 2 LH batters.  I'll just say, though, that he better not fall too much in love with sneaking fastballs down the middle or somebody is going to figure that out.

The Win squares the Giants and Dodgers season records at 1-1.  Tim Lincecum faces Josh Beckett tomorrow evening at Dodger Stadium.

  1. As much as I like Romo, I like him best as a set up guy. I think as a closer he is gong to either wear down or be exposed. Giants starters have not yet allowed a run.

  2. Wilson is still a possibility down the road...maybe and he can regain his old form.

They at least have not burned the bridge (from their vantage point).

  3. belt had the flu and the rest of the giants came down with a case of the dps

i loved the craw bunt attempt with maddy coming to bat

i thought it was funny when the if headed for the mound long before donnie made it there...and scully pointed out the tell...no translator, no stay in game

    1. Yeah, Donnie doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to managing pitchers in game. Vinnie, bless his heart, has become the master of pointing out the obvious.....over and over and over......

  4. Ummm, so who is the best LHP in the NL? Both threw shutouts, both got runs in. And one gave up four hits!

Just yesterday, the Dodgers were partying, now what?

And all Sabes did in the off season was to resign the same bunch of WS retreads. What the hell is going on?

    Pato comment, here...

Maybe the translator can be the Dodgers next manager, at least he seems to know when to head out to the mound, when to stay in and when not to double back.

Romo got the outs, don't need to read more into it, right now, I think.

    1. That translator comment is priceless. I nearly spit my Sleepytime tea all over the screen.

    2. Man, I'm feeling like I missed out on a classic misstep by Donnie Baseball, someone fill me in! I was listening to the radio when the translator came out and the announcers thought it was a trainer, but let us who didn't catch the game in on the secret!

Honestly, the guy is out managed time and again in the two years I've been watching him, the Doyers won't get anywhere with him. Who can forget the time he doubled back to the mound, Bochy called him on it and made him pull the pitcher.

    3. Rainball,

You didn't really miss anything. It was just comical about the tranlater coming out and Vinnie thought it was the trainer at first. Then on the second trip Vinnie made a big deat that since the translater wasn't coming out this time, it meant they were pulling Ryu, except that it was automatic with the second trip anyway. That and pulling the pitcher just as the opposing pitcher is coming up, which is more a testament to Bummy's prowess as a hitter than it was a dumb move.

    4. i dont think vinnie thought he was the trainer, i think vinnie thought the folks at home might confuse him for the trainer, cuz he was the only one on the mound not in a uniform...im sure that vinnie mentioned in the spring the new rule that allows interpreters to go to the mound...but maybe not

what i and vinnie were commenting on was how long it took donnie to get to the mound after the conference had started.

i think the camera guy was confused too, as he didnt catch donnie, till he had already hit the if grass.

  5. Why are you all giant fans so negative. Romo has converted 10 of 10 in saves opportunities. You all are always finding some thing to worry about. This team has won the last 2 of 3 World Series. These players have shown they are the best in the league and if Posey wasnt injured in 2011 they would have won it too am 100 percent sure. Giants have the best pitching in the entire MLB. No one will beat them in 4 of 7 series. I mean the starters have not even allowed a run yet.

    1. Easy there, Anon! Nobody here is down on the Giants, well, except Pato, maybe. This is just a place where you can discuss things, little or big, you noticed about the game. Some of it may be helpful in understanding it. Some of it may be pure ignorance. It's all in fun.

  6. 18 Straight Doyers sent back to the bench, can't argue with that! Nice to see Arias handle 1B, that makes it tougher for Brett Pill though. One of the beats tweeted that Bumgarner will be bragging all year long that they pulled Ryu and brought somebody else in to face him. As Bochy likes to say, you make contact, good things happen...

    2. Yeah, MadBum does get bragging rights on this game - and I think maybe this year.

Also funny that the first walk taken by a Giants batter this year is taken by the Panda - who woulda guessed.

  7. Baggs tweeted a link last night to an Augusta beat writer who looks like he knows his stuff, here's the pitching staff summary:

Also, F/G just finished up their Building a Farm series, I enjoyed it, did a post on the subject. I think its worth checking out (the F/G) part...

Klima is being hedgy on Colin Moran. I think he's hyped enough that he'll go top 10, I don't think I would like him at 25 though. Interesting though, Klima has language about sticking at short and from what I've read he's a 3B but probably a RF at the next level. Hmmm...

  9. Wow I haven't even commented yet and already 2 shots have been taken at me! Lots of hits last night and only 3 runs, 2 of which came on a throwing error so not exactly the breakout this offense had that led us to a WS! The key once again will lie in the top 2 hitters in the lineup and if Panda stays under 400 pounds. May sound obvious but Pagan is a very good player but I'm still not sold on him as a leadoff hitter and Scutaro will have a year similar to last year... before being traded to the Giants. Timmy and Belt will also struggle. Everyone else will have awesome seasons and live happily ever after.
