Down on the Farm: 4/11/2013

AAA  Las Vegas 51's pounded the Fresno Grizzlies 14-3:

Francisco Peguero(RF)- 2 for 4.  BA= .448.
Juan Perez(3B)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .241.
Andrew Klown(sorry, I couldn't resist)- 1.1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 1 K.   ERA= 12.15.
Dan Runzler(LHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.

AA  Trenton Thunder edged the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-5 in 11 innings:

Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 2 for 6.  BA= .276.
Andrew Susac(C)- 2 for 5, 2 HR(2).  BA= .318.

Susac struggles all season in San Jose then comes out smoking to start the season in Richmond after almost being sent back to San Jose.  As Vin Scully would say, "go figure."

High A  San Jose Giants scored a walkoff win over the Visalia Rawhide 3-2:

Shawn Payne(LF)- 2 for 4.  BA= .258
Devin Harris(DH)- 2 for 4.  BA= .333.
Chris Lofton(CF)- 3 for 3, Sac.  BA= .231.
Ydwin Villegas(2B)- 3 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .375
Edwin Escobar(LHP)- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.80.
Jorge Bucardo(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 2.45.
Hunter Strickland(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00

Is Bucardo working his way back into prospect status?  Villegas is hitting uncharacteristically well.  Interesting that he's playing 2B with Bobby Haney at SS.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets blanked the Charleston River Dogs 3-0:

Mitch Delfino(3B)- 2 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .310.
Jesus Galindo(CF)- 0 for 3, BB, HBP, 2 SB(3).  BA= .222.
Joan Gregorio(RHP)- 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 0.82
Derek Law(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.
Tyler Mizenko(RHP)- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(2).  ERA= 0.00.

Dominant line from Gregorio.  The 6'7" righty has 13 K's against just 1 BB in 11 IP.  He had a 5.54 ERA last year in Salem-Keizer, but pretty good peripheral stats.

  1. There was a forwarded tweet on MCC that Escobar was hitting 96 in the 5th. I have no clue as to whether that is true, but if his velocity is even in the 93-94 range than his prospect status is significantly higher.

  2. Ehire has a hitting streak going. Alright alright. I guess Gregorio is a pretty good follow. Nice to see this type of dominance. Hunter Strickland did nice work yesterday. We need to think of a good nickname for Williamson before the inevitable, unoriginal and frankly horrible nickname Big Mac sticks. Susac hitting back in the order, making some noise!

    1. Big Mac is not bad. Perhaps Mac Willie. We can ask Willie Mac what he thinks.

I just hope Spanish speaking fans don't nickname Susac 'your sac.'

  3. DrB - Klima has footage of Chris Oakley up. With Gregorio busting out, McVay doing his thing... maybe I'd better get on the Oakley train. He does have a nice loose frame. Is he athletic like Doug Fister?

    1. Yup, saw that. I think I might actually have Oakley as the #1 pitcher on my draft board who is likely to be available when the Giants pick.

    1. Noonan's journey looks like a step-function one sees in math.

Maybe Raf's is like that too.
