I’m encouraged by the depth of pitching in the upper minors. And it isn’t the worst situation to have our young pitchers get some experience pitching out of the bullpen first, which is how HOF manager Earl Weaver, amongst others, used to break in their starters at the MLB level.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great if he eventually gets to MLB on merit but just in terms of a human interest story l believe Zane Zielinski would be the first big league player with the initials ZZ
Zielinski would be the first with his real name initials ZZ. Zip Zabel pitched for the Cubs over a century ago but Zip was his nickname.
ReplyDeleteZip Zabel (1913-1915), Cubs, 286 IP, 12-14
ReplyDeleteHis given name was George Washington Zabel
ReplyDeleteFWIW, if you go to his Baseball Reference page (https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/z/zabelzi01.shtml) he looks remarkably like the Rogers twins.
ReplyDeleteI watched the Emeralds game. RHP Nicolas Herold has a fast ball that hitters could not touch.
ReplyDeleteA last thought on Zane Zielinski: since George Herman Ruth will ever be known as Babe, George Washington Zabel will be known as Zip
