Cal Mitchell is a former second round draft pick by the Pirates who made it to the major leagues but didn't stick.  He was DFA'd by the Pirates in 2023 and elected free agency.  His batting line with the Padres AAA affiliate, El Paso, last season was .277/.359/.512, 22 HR, 12 SB.  He was released by the White Sox organization after batting just .188 in 32 PA this season and signed by the Giants today.
