Kyle Harrison got blown out early and a late Giants comeback once again fell short. Key Lines:
Mike Yastrzemski RF- 2 for 4, HR(13), BB. BA= .242. YtY's slash line since moving into the leadoff position in the lineup: .269/.406/.577. The only place in the order where he has a better split is 8'th.
Heliot Ramos LF- 2 for 4, 2B, SF, SB(5). BA= .277. Every time I think Heliot has hit a wall he pushes through with a game like this.
Matt Chapman 3B- 1 for 5, HR(22). BA= .247. 3 more to 25.
Patrick Bailey C- 2 for 4. BA= .230. Signs of life in Bailey's bat.
Kyle Harrison LHP- 2.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.56. It seems pretty clear that Harrison has hit his limit for this season and should be shut down.
Tristan Beck RHP- 3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 2.70. Amazing comeback from a subclavian artery aneurysm repair. Yikes! Gives me a near panic attack just thinking about it. Happy to have you back Tristan but stay safe!
Sean Hjelle RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.91. Did anyone catch what Kruk and Kuip were talking about when they said Hjelle would set a record if the next batter hit a comebacker? The batter grounded out to 1B with Hjelle covering instead. Beck and Hjelle are a couple of interesting guys for next season.
Hayden Birdsong RHP tries to push through his wall tomorrow facing Zac Gallen RHP.
Churn Watch:
Marco Luciano IF and Luis Matos OF were finally called up with Blake Sabol C/OF and Casey Schmitt IF optioned to AAA Sacramento. Does FZ really want to get a long look at Luciano and Matos or is this another case of him doing what the blog....KNB....er, fanbase wants? Hey! It worked out for Heliot Ramos!
i think they may let harrison get one more start and then call it a season. tristan beck looks like he's ready to go. birdsong is getting rather close too, if roupp isn't ready, they could look to call up one of the two carsons that needs to be rule 5 protected in ragsdale or seymour. i'd be leaning towards ragsdale. seymour has a little more work to do.
ReplyDelete15 team Ks including Encarnación's golden sombrero and Chapman's hat trick.
ReplyDeleteA nice-ish game for Bailey (2-4), but he's just 3-17 after 10 days off with no Ws, no XBHs, 1 RBI, and 6 Ks (35%).
Perhaps Bailey needs a Posey-plan, where he catches 2 games and DH's 1. And maybe only bats LH?
Ramos is about to catch Chapman for team lead in RBIs (65 to 67) with 74% of the PAs, and far fewer opportunities in less favorable batting order locations.
Ramos may also catch Chapman for team lead in HRs (20 to 22).
Ramos leads Chapman in all per cent categories (BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, and OPS+).
Ramos leads the team (among qualifiers) in all 5 of those statistics except OBP where he is 2nd to Wade.
Who's the team MVP?
Chapman is far ahead of everyone in Defense and especially WOW plays.
Luciano did flub a grounder up the middle on the transfer from glove to hand on which he almost made a great play, but Kuiper said he had no chance of an out at first had he handled it cleanly.
ReplyDeleteerik miller has been leaking oil as of late and i think his usage should be monitored during september. i think bringing up another lefty in ethan small may need to be on the table and use bivens in the opener role for bullpen games right now.
ReplyDeleteWill Schmitt go to Sacramento, smash the ball, not discipline his swing, learn nothing, and come back and repeat what he's done?
ReplyDeleteIn AAA, he can hit out-of-the-strike-zone pitches so he isn't selective. Works fine. Does Hitting Coach Damon Minor care?
Bryan Murphy writes about Minor and Brett Wisely in mccoveychronicles.com (Jun 29, 2024) re his swing and there were improvements.
Wisely is 5' 9" 180 lbs and Schmitt is 6' 2" 215 lbs: probably the Giants want Schmitt to hit HRs but can he hit enough of them? He's probably not Dave Kingman in either HR's or K's.
He has the big arm but is defense doesn't grade out positively in B-R or Fangraphs.
Schmitt probably has to hit more HRs or a higher BA to stick.
