Heliot Ramos became the first right-handed batter to record a splash-hit home run in Oracle Park but it wasn't enough to keep the Giants from and extra-inning loss and the wrong end of a series sweep. Key Lines:
Heliot Ramos LF- 1 for 4, HR(21). BA= .267. Ramos has mostly scuffled since the All-Star break but has occasionally shown off his tremendous talent. A splash hit is not small feat for any batter not named Barry Bonds. There have only been 105 in park history, 35 of those by Bonds, and none by a RH batter before Ramos long tater in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Donovan Walton 2B- 1 for 3, HR(1). BA= .143. It's great that Donovan Walton is getting another trip through The Churn. It's not great that it appears to be at the expense of Marco Luciano getting more MLB experience and a chance to play through his rookie mistakes. I wonder who has the bigger say in that? I'm guessing Melvin.
Landon Roupp RHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.02. Second strong start in a row for Roupp with 2 ER in 10 IP. He ERA over his last 7 appearances is 0.92 in 19.2 IP.
Camilo Doval RHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 5.17. What on Earth happened to Camilo Doval? It isn't just wildness. Batters are squaring him up with regularity which has occasionally happened in the past but not like this.
If they pull the plug on Farhan, I'd let the new POBO or Putila in an expanded role determine Melvin's fate. If Melvin is let go, they should bring back Donnie Ecker to be the new manager.
ReplyDeleteWill Venable should also be on the short list.
DeleteFarhan ruined Bart for us by rushing him way to quickly to the majors and having him run out of options before he was ready to contribute when really he just needed more seasoning in the first place and to not be rushed to the majors. Same thing is happening to Luciano. Anyone who has followed Luciano’s minor league career knows he’s been incredibly injury prone, missing significant time every year and he’s really only had one really good (not great). There’s no denying the potential, but Farhan has to let these guys be healthy and grind it out in the minors leagues before calling them up too soon when they need more seasoning and next thing you know you’re losing them to waivers because they’re out of options. Same thing going to happen with Matos, who also obviously needed more seasoning before they prematurely rushed him up
ReplyDeleteand why the heck did Meckler get called up in '23...and why didn't Fitz get called up long before him?
DeleteDamned if you do, damned if you don't
DeleteThis.
DeleteLooking at Baggs article on Poseys involvement in Chapman contract extension, its not a big deal for ownership to get involved to close out big free agent contract signings. Mets owner Steve Cohen is famous for this. As far as FZ and Bonel job status I wish the owners would just make a decision either way very soon. Its not good to have this hanging.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it sound like FZ was not in on a no-trade clause?
DeleteFZ would use that to protect the Owners, but Posey the Player-Owner said lock us in through age 37
Boras wanted the $25M/yr to be the floor that Chapman would take into the offseason. It could be that the no-trade clause was the "give" and the $25M/yr was the "take".
DeleteMaybe ownership might be planning on spending the next year with Buster taking on an increased front office presence and learning the ropes … then next year — after Farhan can be cut loose without owing him a bunch of money ——Posey leads the search to find a new head of baseball ops?
ReplyDeleteGiants going on the road to play 2 AL contenders with Birdsong, Black, and Roupp scheduled to pitch.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, what happened to the best rotation in baseball?
