Game Wrap 4/27/2022: A's 1 Giants 0

Opener Sam Long LHP gave up a first inning leadoff HR to Chad Pinder LF.  That turned out to be the only run scored the whole game in a Giants loss.

Jakob Junis RHP was once again a "bulk innings" guy for the Giants turning in 5 scoreless IP with 6 K's.  He now has 10 K's in 10 scoreless IP over 2 appearances.

The worst part of the evening for the Giants was not the final score but an apparent significant muscle strain to Joc Pederson OF who has pretty much carried the team so far.

Wilmer Flores DH looked like he was not feeling so well after a close play at 1B late in the game. No word of any injury in his case.....yet.

The Dodgers lost to the D'Backs for the second game in a row so the Giants remain in first place in the NL West despite the loss.

The Giants start a home series vs the Nationals Friday evening after a much needed day off today.

  1. Bases loaded, one out double play. Leadoff double that was never advanced to third. Lack of situational hitting (I know you hate that term) cost the team in this game. Great job by the bullpen. Now let's please begin the era of Hjelle so Long doesn't have to pitch any more first innings.

    1. If that GIDP was a grand slam HR, you would not be here complaining about situational hitting. The Giants lost due to a lack of hitting.

  2. The only truly situational hitting is bunting. I suppose you can bunt someone over to third and then suicide bunt someone home but that's an inefficient strategy. If a player is able to hit fly balls situationally, they would. Teams rarely bunt anymore situationally because nowadays with pretty much everyone throwing 95, it's REALLY hard to bunt.

  3. Perhaps MLB and the Giants thinks they'll endear the Nation by usurping a game for some greater good they can include this person OUT.
Even with a subscription to MLB.TV, no-no watch on Apple-TV.
Certainly there's a way, but 161 games will be enough this year.

    1. Between a terrible broadcast and an even worse game, not sure Apple is did themselves any favors.
