Preseason Update: Chadwick Tromps

The "Black" squad whitewashed the "Orange" squad in yesterday's simulated game with Chadwick Tromp loudly stating his case to be on the 30 man Opening Day roster with 2 booming HR's off Jeff Samardzija and Sam SelmanChadwick who?  Just make sure it's spelled with an O and not a U!

The Giants signed Chadwick Tromp as a minor league free agent over the winter after he showed off a power breakout in a SSS for AAA Louisville last year hitting 7 HR's in 77 AB.  He is 25 years old.  Tromp may have something going for him here.  While Tyler Heineman can fill the RH half of a C platoon, he is a switch-hitter while Tromp is strictly a RH battter.  RH is usually the weaker half of switch-hitting splits.  Both Heineman and Tromp have AAA experience.

Drew Smyly and Kevin Gausman combined to pitch 4.2 innings of 1 hit ball.  I am pretty excited by those two.  Were this a standard season, they would be candidates to bring back a nice haul at the trade deadline. They still might be or the Giants may be able to sign them to reasonable longer term deals.  Not surprisingly, Shark didn't look sharp and was just getting his work in. Will Wilson doubled off him.

Marco Luciano continued to impress with an IF single and a double to RF.

8 Days to the first of two exhibitions against the A's and 11 days to Opening Day against the Dodgers.

  1. According to CBS it's:
    Kershaw v Cueto
    Buehler v Samardzija
    Urias v Gausman
    Wood v Smyly

Seems to be a Tale of 2 Halves, with the only "breather" in the first 30 games being a 4 game series in Colorado.
30 games in 32 days against LAD (7 in LA), 3 in Houston, 3 each in SD and Texas, 3 with Oakland, 2 each home-and-home with the Angels, & 3 with AZ.

After a day off, the 2nd "half" begins at home with 3 against the Dogs, 3 across the Bay later, 2 each home-and-home with Seattle, and 20 against the other NL West rivals.
60 games with 6 days off, 2 of them in one week mid September!

In other news, MLBTR plans to have a members-only site in addition at a nominal price.
You'll always be the Best Bargain on the internet, Doc!
