Down on the Farm: 5/25/2014

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies tore up the Salt Lake City Bees 10-2:

Gary Brown(CF)- 2 for 6, 2B.  BA= .265.
Joe Panik(2B)- 3 for 6.  BA= .316.
Chris Dominguez(3B)- 1 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(12).  BA= .281.
Mike Kickham(LHP)- 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.35.

It will be interesting to see when and how the Giants decide Panik is ready for the majors.  As long as Hicks keeps playing stellar D and popping an occasional dinger, there is no pressure, which is a good thing, for now.  Kind of a ragged 6 inning no-no for Kickham.  Kid has good looking stuff, but will he ever learn to command it?

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels soared over the Trenton Thunder 9-1:

Matt Duffy(SS)- 2 for 5, SB(11).   BA= .305.
Angel Villalona(1B)- 2 for 4, HR(5).  BA= .273.
Myles Schroder(3B)- 2 for 3, 2 2B, HBP.  BA= .252.

This was Villalona's second dinger in 2 games.  He's hitting .359/.375/.615 over his last 10 games.  More importantly, he's struck out just 5 times in his last 40 AB's and has his overall K rate on the season down below 25%.  The kid is coming along!

High A  San Jose Giants edged the Visalia Rawhide 3-2:

Elliott Blair(RF)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .309.
Blake Miller(2B)- 2 for 4, HR(6).  BA= .326.

Blake Miller can hit!  Can he find a position to field and can he get over the EL hump?

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets defeated the Greenville Drive 7-5:

Ryder Jones(3B)- 3 for 5, 2 2B, 3B.  BA= .269.
Tyler Horan(RF)- 3 for 5, 2B, HR(5), SB(4).  BA= .292.
Chase Johnson(RHP)- 0.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 5.79.
Carlos Alvarado(RHP)- 4.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.97.

Horan had been in a bit of a slump.  Ryder Jones has really impressed and seems to be getting stronger. He's hitting .286 over his last 10 games, which is slightly higher than his season average, but he's slugging .667 in that span with 9 of his 12 hits going for extra bases, including 3 of his 4 HR's on the season.   Chase Johnson really seems to run hot and cold and maybe not have a lot of stamina.  Maybe his college coach at Cal Poly knew something?

  1. More hitters seem to be doing better than pitchers, especially when compared to starting pitchers, this year.
