Down on the Farm 5/22/2014

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Las Vegas 51's 6-3:

Gary Brown(CF)- 1 for 4, SB(7).  BA= .265.
Joe Panik(2B)- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .304.
Chris Dominguez(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .279.
Jose DePaula(LHP)- 4.1 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 3.32.
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(10).  ERA= 2.81.

DePaula gave up some hits but had dominant K and BB numbers.  Nice clean Save by Hembree.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels vs New Britain Rock Cats Suspended after 1.5 innings with no score.

High A  San Jose Giants beat the Stockton Ports 5-1 in 11 innings on Blake Miller's walk-off grand slam HR:

Blake Miller(2B)- 1 for 4, HR(5), BB.  BA= .321.
Chris Stratton(RHP)- 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 9/1.  ERA= 4.44.
Steven Okert(LHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 1.46.

Strong start by Stratton.  Hopefully this is the start of a run of starts like this.  Miller seems be be back to playing wherever there is an opening.  The bat looks good, though.

Low A  Greenville Drive pounded the Augusta Greenjackets 7-2:

Rafael Rodriguez(LF)- 2 for 4, SB(1).  BA= .261.

A rare RafRod sighting.

  1. I've lost track, has RafRod been injured or in extended spring training, he hardly has any ABs so far. Second, wow, no strikeouts after 20+ ABs, that is an incredible contact rate, though so far he's doing zip with the contact, hardly any hits, even worse, zero extrabase hits. Did he radically change the way he hits? Though he's only 21, he's pretty much done as a prospect unless he can do something this season, it seems, this is his 6th pro season. Though I suppose if he could figure out something by next season, he could still make the majors while still relatively young, but he has shown nothing for years now, wonder how he went from his great first season to keep on declining like he has.

    1. RafRod just needs to play. He made a few appearances at the beginning of the season then disappeared. I assume another injury. He's been injured a lot the last 2-3 seasons. I don't think you can come to any conclusions from 20+ AB's.

  2. Your boy Blake Miller is coming correct! Big ISO #s, hanging at shortstop, and a flair for the dramatic. This is good stuff.

If Stratton gets on his horse, it is pretty much the single best thing that can happen to the farm system. He is a top end talent, he needs to play like it. Fingers crossed.
