  1. Is Johnny Monell a sleeper??

    1. I think you could call Johnny From the Bronx Monell a favorite around these parts. Still needs work on defensive side but lefthanded hitting catchers do not grow on trees, especially ones with pop in their bats. May not get his chance with Los Gigantes however.

    2. Monell has also been playing some first base and in the gamne I watched on television he handled himself well. Versatility can't hurt, but like Shankbone says - does he have a Major League future with the Giants?

  2. So what's up with Chris Dominguez at this point? That's a nice BA given his profile, and he's back to showing power after a down year. Are teams not throwing him curve balls anymore? Or has he found a new gear?

    1. I would not trust Dominguez' BA which I presume is a PCL mirage.

    2. Ditto. I don't think Dominquez would stand a chance against Major League off speed stuff.

  3. What would it take to acquire Stanton and Nolasco? I've read about rumors the Giants are interested in Bud Norris and a few other names but why not go big and put together a package for a guy like Nolasco and steal Stanton in the process? Florida obviously has no problem giving away their talent and although Stanton is giong to cost more compared to the package they gave away to Toronto, he should still be reasonable compared to his potential. Nolasco is the type of pitcher that would only improve by having half his games at AT&T. He could be a good stopgap for next year when Timmy leaves. Stanton has his injury issues but when he is healthy he would be a force hitting with Posey and Pence around him.

    1. As far as I know, Nolasco is a free agent after this year. If we're going to target a pitcher to trade for, I'd rather it be someone who's under contract through next year (for the reason you stated). In theory, I like upgrading our OF offense, too, as part of this package. And because Stanton is young, I'd be more willing to part with our top prospects. However, pitching is the biggest need, and will probably be so next year...so again, I'd almost rather focus on a pitcher who's signed through next year, too. Norris fits the bill. I've also heard people propose going after Shields. Lee, as well (though he's too old and expensive for my taste). Not sure who else fits the description, so it may be a rental in then end.

    2. Stanton will cost 2 blue chip prospects, which the Giants do not have and 2 good upside prospects, which the Giants do have. Not enough steaks in the freezer, useless to speculate about him.

Like Lucky says, Nolasco is a rental. He's an OK pitch to contact guy but he's nothing special. I bet the Giants would rather go after Norris for the contract control, the strikeout stuff, and the fact he might play nice in the park.

    3. I liked Shankbones idea for Peavy, too bad he got injured right around then, though maybe his price goes down then?

To get Stanton, you are talking giving up Posey or Bumgarner in trade, no thank you! Or Belt and Crawford plus 3-4 pitchers, our top ones, Crick, Blackburn, Stratton, Agosta, it would clean out our farm system.

    4. I"ll say it right now: Neither Stanton nor Norris are coming here.

Stanton is out of the question for the reasons already explained by Shankbone. Blurb on MLBTR has at least 12 teams interested in Norris. Giants aren't going to win THAT bidding war!
