Down on the Farm: 5/25/2013

AAA  Colorado Springs Sky Sox defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 7-5:

Juan Perez(SS-3B)- 3 for 6, HR(8).  BA= .316.
Gary Brown(CF)- 1 for 4, 2 Sac.  BA= .211.
Roger Kieschnick(RF)- 1 for 3, 3 BB.  BA= .309.
Jackson Williams(C)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .200.
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.68.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels beat the Altoona Curve 12-5:

Jarrett Parker(RF)- 2 for 6, 2 HR(8).  BA= .250.
Javier Herrera(LF)- 2 for 5, HR(5).  BA= .285.
Andrew Susac(C)- 1 for 4, HR(6), BB.  BA= .264.
Travious Relaford(SS)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .226.
Jack Snodgrass(LHP)- 6.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.89.

Snodgrass also got 3 hits in the game.  Parker is putting up very similar numbers to his last 2 seasons in SJ, except it's at a higher level and in a pitcher's league.  Those numbers stink in the Cal League but look quite good in the EL.  What does that mean?  I don't know!

High A  San Jose Giants roped the High Desert Mavericks 6-3:

Angel Villalona(1B)- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(9).  BA= .226.
Bobby Haney(SS)- 2 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .246.
Shawn Payne(DH)- 2 for 5, 2 SB(16).  BA= .255.
Clayton Blackburn(RHP)- 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 4.40.
Josh Osich(LHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(5).  ERA= 0.74.

Blackburn had a QS but his K and BB numbers were better than his ERA.

Low A  Savannah Sand Gnats topped the Augusta Greenjackets 2-1:

Trevor Brown(2B)- 2 for 3, HBP, SB(3).  BA= .239.
Ben Turner(C)- 3 for 4.  BA= .241.
Charles Jones(RF)- 2 for 4.  BA= .201.
Martin Agosta(RHP)- 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 2.45.
Tyler Mizenko(RHP)- 0.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 0.87.

That's more like it from Agosta.  Nobody is perfect at any level, but a D1 college draftee should be able to do this in low A ball with some regularity.  Mizenko gives up his first runs of the season and his first blown Save.

  1. Agosta was quoted in a recent Augusta newspaper article that he was going to pound the strike zone instead of nibbling so much with his pitches. His manager said he needed to pitch deeper into games. It looks like he did that based on the line he put up. If Agosta keeps this up, he just might find his way to San Jose!

  2. Snodgrass is 2nd in ERA in the Eastern, 5th in WHIP. Don't look at his peripherals with complete scorn, he's a pitch to contact lefty. Nice sleeper.

Agosta is hitting his stride. I'm curious how much more velocity is in the tank.

Blackburn has a good rebound game. That is good for his confidence.

We find out who the guy is tonight. the Cajun pitched again, its going to be a call up!
