Down on the Farm: 5/21/2013

AAA  Oklahoma City Redhawks crushed the Fresno Grizzlies 15-2:

Chris Dominguez(1B)- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .271.
Hector Sanchez(DH)- 3 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .308.
Chris Heston(RHP)- 5.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 5.59.

Dan Runzler(LHP)- 0 IP, 1 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 4.80.

The Hector is reportedly still being bothered by shoulder soreness.  Heston gave up all 5 runs in the first inning.

AA  Trenton Thunder blanked the Richmond Flying Squirrels 3-0:

Carlos Teller(LHP)- 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

So far, Teller has been an organizational guy playing wherever he is needed.  He's had stops in SJ, Fresno and now Richmond.  He is 26 yo and last played affiliated ball in 2008.

High A  San Jose Giants dominated the Inland Empire 66'ers 8-0:

Brock Bond(2B)- 1 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .286.
Mac Williamson(RF)- 2 for 5.  BA= .258.
Angel Villalona(1B)- 1 for 5, 2B.  BA= .213.
Jeff Arnold(C)- 1 for 4, HR(7).  BA= .266.
Chris Lofton(LF)- 3 for 4.  BA= .270.
Elliott Blair(CF)- 1 for 1, 2 BB, HBP.  BA= .236.

Wow!  Ty Blach has taken on some serious helium!  His numbers just get more dominating with each start.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets defeated the Rome Braves 7-4:

Jesus Galindo(CF)- 3 for 5, 2B, SB(25).  BA= .309.
Shayne Houck(DH)- 2 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .312.

Derek Law(RHP)- 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 2.61.
Tyler Mizenko(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, Save(12).  ERA= 0.00.

Disappointing numbers from Stratton.  Mizenko keeps his scoreless innings streak alive.

  1. Will we see Dunning, who is on the 40 man roster, soon?

Are the Giants seeing something beyond numbers that he needs still work on that they haven't called him up?

I would also ask the same of Hembree.

    1. Right or wrong, I just think the Giants MO is to use a guy with some MLB experience under his belt like Rosario first. I doubt that it goes beyond that. The other factor is that at least with Hembree, I think that when the Giants bring him up, they want it to be to stay rather than as a short term fill in.

    2. I see Hembree as a Brian Wilson type. The difference is that the Giants were not competing when Wilson made his ascent. Sure are now. Can't afford the bumps and bruises that go along with teething. makes it a lot harder to crack the 25. People who insist the Giants don't have depth in their system are crazy if you ask me. Tons of depth.

    3. Not only that, but they are drastically different players. Hembree will pitch 1 inning wither as a setup guy, or he will close. Rosario will go multiple innings and cleanup, which is what the Giants needed

  2. I'm starting to get interested in Ty Blach because he is a LHP who has shown that he throws strikes.. What jumps out to me is his ERA 1.89 and BB/K ratio 4BB 44K in 49 IP. He might be on track to be the 1st pitcher from their single A teams to reach the higher levels of their system. Its too early to be excited but he's definitely someone to keep an eye on.. Do prospect experts see him as a similar type of pitcher like Eric Surkamp or is his ceiling higher..

    1. I don't know much about Blach, but those numbers are impressive. I agree that he is emerging as the guy most likely to hit the fast track.

    2. Yes, he is emerging very nicely, but I would caution that he's only striking out 8.3 K/9 right now, not extremely dominating (league average is 8.4 K/9, so he's actually below average). But, wow, great control, barely walking anybody, so definitely he should be on the radar now.
