Game Wrap Spring Training 2013: Indians 4 Giants 3

The Giants scored 2 runs in the top of the 9'th inning to take a 3-2 lead only to give it back in the bottom of the 9'th in a split squad game in the Indians home training park.  Key Lines:

Gregor Blanco- 0 for 4, 3 K's.  BA= .189.  Blanco better watch his back or else Torres or Pegs is going to grab his   playing time.

Roger Kieschnick- 2 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .219.

Brock Bond- 1 for 4, 3B.  BA= .381.  What an impressive spring Bond is having!

Ricky Oropesa- 1 for 2, BB, SF.  BA= .294.  Ricky puts a nice finish to the major league portion of his spring training.  Good impressions on the manager and GM can open doors down the road in a young player's career.  That is true in all walks of life, actually.

Chris Heston- 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 8.10.  Heston has had his ups and downs this spring, but was at his best in the two games that counted the most:  The split squad game at Salt River Flats that the entire front office attended, and this one which might be more impressive because he faced a mostly MLB lineup.

Dan Runzler- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 1.29.  Runzler continues to put together solid outings.

  1. I'd be a little disappointed if Pegs continues to play well and doesn't make the 25 man roster. He's hitting 100 points higher then Gillespie who seems like an AAAA player based on his career stats. Management has said in the past that they would go with the kids.

Runzler deserves a chance too if Mijaris is not ready. He must have Bochy cringe last night hitting M Reynolds on a 0-2 pitch but got Giambi to get out of the jam.

Should the Giants trade for a backup catcher if Hector goes on the DL? Chris Snyder is available.

Good stuff from Ricky O. Single to RF with a runner at 3rd 2 outs. Sacrifice fly to CF with a runner at 3rd 1 out.

I was a Hank Greenwald fan so enjoyed listening to his son do the game last night

    1. if peggs doesnt make the 25 man, its because the club doesnt feel they can get him enough at bats in the bigs.

this wont be a nate situation, with a worthless vet blocking him

club sees peggs as taking the starting job in left...he just needs more at bats to refine his offense

i think the club will go with one of the guys they already have to take hector's spot. as it is, they will have to clear room on the 40

  2. It should be an interesting last two weeks of camp. Peggs against advanced pitching? Slumping Blanco pick it up? If Torres pulls a hammy Peggs and Cole will get a nod. As long as Pagan and Pence are solid, the Giants can weather some drama in left.

Chris Heston has been impressive. Prove-out guy is proving out. Our rotation in Fresno should be much improved.

    1. Hopefully nothing serious but a TJ would be a very bad thing for Pablo.
