Down on the Farm: 8/5/2023

AAA:  Reno Aces defeated the Sacramento River Cats 5-1

Wade Meckler RF- 1 for 2, BB.  BA= .222.
Kyle Harrison LHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.78.

No need to rush Harrison, IMO.  Pitching is not the problem.

AA:  Altoona Curve pounded the Richmond Flying Squirrels 9-1.

Ismael Munguia LF(.310), Jimmy Glowenke SS(.232) and Brady Whalen 3B(.228) had 2 hits each.
Hayden Birdsong RHP- 3.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 10.80.

Rough introduction to the EL for Hayden Birdsong.

A+:  Eugene Emeralds smothered the Tri-City Dust Devils 9-1.

Carter Howell RF- 1 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .242.
Aeverson Arteaga SS- 2 for 5, HR(15).  BA= .232.
Sean Roby 1B- 1 for 2, HR(6), 2 BB.  BA= .260.
Luis Toribio 3B- 1 for 4, HR(13).  BA= .230.
Seth Lonsway LHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 7/2.  ERA= 5.40.
Matt Mikulski LHP- 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 6.60.
William Kempner RHP- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 3.18.

A:  Inland Empire 66'ers outlasted the San Jose Giants 5-3(10 innings)

Alexander Suarez LF- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .244.
Patrick Hilson DH- 3 for 4, 2B, 2 HR(8).  BA= .240.
Manuel Mercedes RHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 7/3.
Tyler Vogel RHP- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 4.17.

Patrick Hilson oozes tools and has games like this where he looks like a future superstar but not enough of them.  May be running out of time to hit consistently.

Complex Performances:

ACL:

Scott Bandura CF- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .400.
Bryce Eldridge RF- 0 for 1, 3 BB.  BA= .111.
Alix Hernandez RHP- 4 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 5.44.

DSL:

Jorge Ramirez C(17 yo)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .200.

    1. FZ raved about Meckler's bat to ball skills and plate discipline on a recent podcast with Pav's and made it sound like he'll be a big contributor to the SF Giants very soon. Great job by their scouts and player development people. He was drafted in the 8th round in 2022.

  2. Who are the top 5 power hitters in our farm system? We are bottom 5 this year in homers at the big league level and none of our top prospects seem like true power hitters. I think there was a pretty realistic expectation that either JD, Conforto, Joc, Villar, Haniger, or even Lamont could reach the 30 HR mark this year but thats not happening. The pitching is good enough to win but we need bats….

    1. Long string of injuries to players just as they seemed to be putting it together and a few disappointing seasons. Power hitters in the system?

      Marco Luciano
      Rayner Arias
      Bryce Eldridge
      Guillermo WIlliamson

That's about it. Maybe Tyler Fitzgerald and/or Heliot Ramos(he's still in the system). The 2021 and 2022 drafts went heavy for pitching.
