AAA:  Tacoma Rainiers shellacked the Sacramento River Cats 9-0.

Mason Black RHP- 4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 4.35.

Black is looking like a potential MLB contributor as early as next season.  Maybe even a Sept add and callup this season just to evaluate him?

Onil Perez continues to be a basehit machine in his first A+ game.  McCray and Arteaga continue their second half surges.

A:  San Jose Giants topped the Stockton Ports 7-6.

  1. Agree on Black, he dominated the eastern league and won June pitcher of the month award. He's holding his own in AAA and had 8 ks in tonights outing. Maybe we see Black and Harrison called up before the season ends. I think management liked Harrison's last two outings walking nobody with a bunch of strikeouts.

    1. Did the Giants take a chapter from Sandy Koufax's book: Take a little off your fast ball and get it in...

  2. Yesterday's Down on the farm mentioned Nick Avila's 14th win with no losses for the River Cats.
MLB's best undefeated season was Tom Zachary's 12–0 for the 1929 Yankees.
Roy Face was 17–0 during the 1959 season but ended up 18–1.
Phil Regan would come in late for the 1966 "Hated Ones" and pick up the win. Koufax named him the Vulture for sweeping in and picking up the win. He was 14-1, all in relief.
The team-that-will-not-be-named fittingly lost the WS 4-0 with the vaunted starting rotation of Koufax, Drysdale, and Osteen (57-39 regular season) going 0-4.
The Giants won their last 6 games (8 of 9) but couldn't make up a 4-game deficit.
