Carlos Rodon was as dominant as any pitcher in Giants history but it wasn't enough as the Giants lineup struggled against Pablo Lopez RHP and the Marlins relievers.
Carlos Rodon LHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 12 K's. ERA= 1.80. The run scored on a infield single/error which put a runner on 2B then two WP's including one on a K. Other than that, Rodon was unhittable with a FB that sat at 98 all afternoon and a killer slider. There is a pitch count price to pay for all those K's and Rodon was clearly gassed by the end of the 5'th inning. Gotta be excited for what the future holds for him and the Giants though.
Camilo Doval RHP- 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 0 K. ERA= 11.57. Kap seems to still be searching for bullpen roles. Not sure why Jake McGee LHP entered the game in the 7'th inning. It didn't go well which brought in Doval with 2 outs and a runner on 3B. I just said "oh no!" After walking his first batter on 4 pitches, Doval got the next guy on a ground out. That seemed to settle him down and he pitched a clean 8'th inning with what looked like a lot more confidence so maybe there was a method to Kap's madness?
Speaking of confidence: Kap is going to have to gain confidence in more than 4 relievers.

It won't get any easier tomorrow afternoon as Anthony DeSclafani RHP faces Trevor Rogers LHP in the series finale.
1st and 2nd, one out, down 1 and they don't cash in isn't going to get it done. They need situational hitting or it'll be last years LDS all year long.
ReplyDeleteForget situational hitting. They need hitting!
DeleteHeliot Ramos is on his way!
DeletePav's tweeted per source Heliot Ramos being called up for Sunday's game. Exciting news! FZ doesn't waste time, just use Ramos's 5 options wisely.
ReplyDeleteI miss the pitch count on the score 'bug."
ReplyDeleteReally hoping for a big year from Yaz - looking at our lineup I'm down on where the production is coming from. I understand splits and all that but I think the projections are closer on our lineup then our 2021 season that is now missing Posey/Bryant. Just one FA slugger like Schwarber would have made the lineup look a lot longer.
ReplyDeleteBasically, save us Ramos
Dodgers were questioned here when they traded Pollock for Kimbrel when they might have resigned Jansen and kept the oft-injured but very capable OFer.
ReplyDeleteWell, Pollock came out of the Sox game yesterday in the 3rd inning grasping his hamstring. He has played one entire season (2015) in his 10+ year career.
Dodgers get 3 unearned, 2-out runs when Kris Bryant misses a flyball in LF with the bases loaded.
DeleteOuch.
