AAA: Sacramento Flying Squirrels defeated the Oklahoma City Dodgers 8-3:
Bryce Johnson CF- 2 for 5, SB(7). BA= .314.
Heliot Ramos RF- 0 for 2, 2 BB. BA= .216.
Luke Williams 2B- 3 for 4, 2B, SB(1). BA= .750.
Ka'ai Tom LF- 1 for 3, SF, SB(1). BA= .351.
Jhonny Pereda C- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .286.
Raynel Espinal RHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 9 K's. ERA= 1.42.
Corey Oswalt RHP- 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K's, ERA= 5.40.
Joey Marciano LHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.50.
Heliot Ramos' OBP is .383. Is he being too selective or should he keep doing what's he's doing and trust the process? Espinal has 22 K's in 12.2 IP. At the rate the Giants are going through pitchers, we may see him in a Giants uniform sooner than later. Looks like Jakob Junis RHP is in line for the first call up.

SJ pitchers have allowed just 3 hits over the past two game/18 IP with a total of 29 K's. Remember most of these pitchers are college draftees who the Giants placed conservatively.

Giants acquired Cory Abbott RHP from the Cubs for cash. Jaylin Davis OF was removed from the 40-man roster to make room for Abbott who they placed at AAA Sacramento.
Report from Visalia: Once again the pitching by the SJ Giants was stellar. Will Bednar was hitting 92-93 MPH with his fastball. His off-speed stuff was ranging from 82-85 MPH. He threw 40 of 55 pitches for strikes. He had some wicked horizontal movement on what was probably his slider. He gave up a no-doubt homerun in the 3rd. Seth Lonsway, 6th round pick in 2021, pitched the next 4 innings and threw 33 of 52 pitches for strikes. I did not get the MPH on his pitches, as a slight sprinkle started in the 5th inning and the SJ Giants staff/players with the laptops moved to get out of the rain. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, the laptops were recording speed of the pitch, along with spin rate and some other stats.
ReplyDeleteThe defense of Arteaga Aeverson is as good as advertised. He made 3 memorable plays in the field, which were reminiscent of Brandon Crawford. He made a good stop of a ball deep in the hole and threw a bullet to first. He also made a good play charging a slow ball hit up the middle and got it to first just before the runner. Dilan Rosario also made some good plays at 2nd base. On one he went deep behind second base, grabbed a ball that looked like a sure single and got it to first with an off-balance throw just in time.
As for hitting, it is hard to find positives when the SJ Giants struck out 50 times in 3 games. In the 3 games they had 23 hits, 17 walks, 50 strikeouts and 59 left on base. APGiantsfan
