Game Wrap 6/3/2021: Giants 7 Cubs 2

Anthony DeSclafani RHP worked a Quality Start and Brandon Crawford SS sparked the offense in a convincing Giants win.  Game Notes:

Crawford got the Giants on the board first with an RBI single in the second inning off Zach Davies RHP.  When Crawford came up again in the 5'th with the score tied 2-2 and 2 runners on base, Cubs Manager David Ross brought in Rex Brothers LHP to face him.  The problem with that move is Crawford was already 5 for 13 in his career against Brothers.  He got the green light on a 3-0 FB and drove it over the CF wall for a 3-run blast which broke the game open.  Crawford leads the Giants in HR's(12) and RBI's(36) and could be headed for career highs in both as well as his 3'rd All-Star Game appearance.

Wilmer Flores 3B tripled and walked before being replaced by Mauricio Dubon 3B.  Hopefully it was a move for defense and not another injury.

Anthony DeSclafani RHP always puts a great swing on the ball but was hitless in 21 AB's prior to this game.  He broke out of that with an RBI double off the RF wall and a walk.  As for his pitching, DeSclafani(I refuse to call him Disco) rebounded nicely from a couple of tough games against the Dodgers to limit the Cubs to 2 runs on 4 hits in 6 IP with an 8/1 GO/AO.

The Win kept the Giants on top of the NL West by 1 game over the Padres and 2 games over the Dodgers.  The Giants also have the best record in MLB by 0.5 games over the Rays.

The Giants will face Jake Arrieta tonight.  The Giants SP is up in the air due to another IL stint announced for Logan Webb RHP with recurrent shoulder soreness.  Nick Tropeano RHP was called up to replace him on the Active Roster.  Tropeano or Conner Menez LHP could start or Scott Kazmir LHP could return from the Restricted list.

YtY also hit the IL with the thumb sprain and Jason Vosler IF was recalled.

  1. A friend, "AHS" reminded me yesterday of your good work. Thanks for the time you put in on this. I spend my time on Together We're Giants and see you recommend that site too. I ty to get our folks there to at least pick two players from each Giants fam team to follow and learn their story. I call it "MyGuy™". Your work is a help for that. ... HaakAway

  2. Report from the Giants web page regarding Flores. He departed the game in the 6th inning with hamstring tightness. Manager Gabe Kapler said the malady “isn’t nearly as bad as it was when he went on the IL” last month, but the Giants decided to be cautious and removed Flores in hopes of avoiding making the injury worse. 1. .....and just like that, Nick Tropeano not only gets sent down, he's DFA'd to make room for Scott Kazmir who apparently will start tonight. Not sure I'm down with that. Hope Kazmir puts up 5 zeros tonight to prove me wrong.
