Down on the Farm: 6/24/2021

AAA:

LaMonte Wade Jr.  LF/1B- 1 for 2, HR(3), BB.  BA= .244.
Thairo Estrada SS- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .378.
Drew Robinson PH- 1 for 1, HR(3).  BA= .154.
Scott Kazmir LHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.10.
Jay Jackson RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Is LaMonte Wade Jr the callup if Brandon Belt hits the IL with his knee injury as expected?  Rehabbing Tommy La Stella IF DNP in this one.  He's not expected to be ready before the first week in July.  Scott Kazmir has pitched 10 scoreless innings over 2 starts since accepting outright assignment to Sacramento.  Kazmir has 9 K's and 3 BB's in that span.

AA:

Heliot Ramos CF- 0 for 4.  BA= .242.
Vince Fernandez LF- 1 for 4, HR(7).  BA= .185.
Sandro Fabian RF- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(4).  BA= .270.
Trent Toplikar RHP- 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 4.15.

Heliot Ramos may be hitting the EL Wall.  He's just 1 for 16 over his last 4 games with a drop of 20 pts on his BA.  His BA had been eroding from a peak of .314 on May 30.

High A:

Tyler Fitzgerald 2B- 3 for 5, HR(6).  BA= .257.
Brandon Martorano C- 4 for 4, 2 2B, SB(4).  BA= .338.
Seth Corry LHP- 4.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 4.95.

Fitzgerald is 6 for 13 with 2 HR's over his last 3 games.

Low A:

Carter Williams RF- 3 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .318.
Brett Auerbach 3B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .317.
Jairo Pomares DH- 2 for 4, HR)3).  BA= .324.
Kyle Harrison LHP- 4.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 2.70.
Randy Rodriguez RHP- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.95.

Carter Williams was a UDFA last June.

  1. LaMonte Wade Jr. was pulled from the lineup during the Rivercats game - possibly due to a callup to replace Brandon Belt? It looks like Kazmir is pitching himself back into consideration for a call up if a starter or long relief pitcher is needed. Ramos certainly has hit a wall, which is why he obviously needs more seasoning in the minors. Both Corry and Harrison are getting their strikeouts, but both are walking too many and need to work on their control. Corry threw 92 pitches with 51 strikes and Harrison threw 88 pitches with 51 strikes. Is Jay Jackson another Farhan reclamation project that will pan out? The 33-year-old relief pitcher had 2 stints in the majors - 2015 with San Diego (6 games) and 2019 with Milwaukee (28 games). He has appeared in 275 minor league games. Early in career was primarily a starter, but the last few years has worked out of the bullpen. APGiantsfan

  2. Patrick Bailey C, first round pick, is struggling at the Low A level. meanwhile, 16th round pick, Brandon Martorano is doing surprisingly well at High A. Not sure though if he is at the age appropriate level. nevertheless, would be nice for at least one of these two players to show promise as the more catchers, the merrier. Bailey's struggles speaks to Doc's comments about FZ's drafting acumen though with such a SS, might just be bad luck. just the same, something to watch.

  3. Saw some video of Pomares. He appears to be significantly bigger than he was in 2019. SSS to be sure, but he may be part of a four-headed monster in SJ - Luciano, Canario, Matos and Pomares. There is some swing and miss in the group that needs to be reduced, but the exit velos (Joe Ritzo is great about posting in game data on Twitter) are darn impressive.

Please FZ, don’t trade away any of these guys for a rental at the trade deadline.

  4. Righty vs lefty or not, Steve Duggar hits good lefties far better than one of my favorites, Austin Slater.
If you going to play matchups, you should at least see if the stats bear you out before you fill out the lineup card. This is very unfair to Slater: although each AB is independent of the previous, and Slater may win the game with some superlative something (his D isn't as good as Duggar's either), the odds are substantially against it.
Isn't playing the odds to your advantage what the new era is all about?
Sorry, the odds are not in Slater's favor!
