State of the Blue Jays
The Blue Jays are on expansion franchise founded in 1977. They won B2B World Series in 1992 and 1993. Since then, they have been intermittently competitive but have not added any rings.
Ownership:
The Blue Jays are owned by Rogers Communications since 2000. Long time baseball executive Mark Shapiro is the President and CEO. The most recent Forbes valuation of the franchise is approximately $1.6 B. I don't really follow the Blue Jays closely and cannot find any strong opinions regarding ownership one way or the other.
Grade B.
Management:
GM is Ross Atkins who took over when Alex Anthopoulos left after Mark Shapiro became President and CEO.
Charlie Montoyo is the field Manager.
Grade C.
Current Roster:
Starting Nine: Danny Jansen C, Travis Shaw 1B, Cavan Biggio 2B, Vladimir Guerrero 3B, Bo Bichette SS, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. LF, Teoscar Hernandez CF, Randal Grichuk RF, Rowdy Tellez DH.
Bench: Reese McGuire C, Brandon Drury IF, Derek Fisher OF, Anthony Alford OF.
Starting Rotation: Hyun-Jin Ryu LHP, Tanner Roark RHP, Chase Anderson RHP, Matt Shoemaker RHP, Shun Yamaguchi RHP.
Bullpen: Ken Giles RHP(Closer), Wilmer Font RHP, Anthony Bass RHP, Rafael Dolis RHP, Sam Gaviglio RHP, Jake Petricka RHP, Brian Moran LHP, AJ Cole RHP.
Vlad Jr and Bo Bichette come from legacy families and are two of the better young players in the game. Beyond that, the roster still has significant holes and the bullpen is particularly thin and weak.
Grade C-
Farm System:
RHP Nate Pearson is #1 and has a lot of people excited by a flaming fastball. Jordan Groshans SS, Simeon Woods Richardson RHP and Alek Manoah RHP are the next 3. After that, I don't recognize any names.
Grade C.

Breaking News:
ReplyDeleteBuster Posey will not play in 2020. A lot of people are already giving him grief on social media. Given the situation of the world right now, I'm not going to fault anyone for skipping a 60 game season if they feel it jeopardizes the safety of their family. Bummer though.
