Down on the Farm: 5/27/2018

AAA  Albuquerque Isotopes exploded over the Sacramento River Cats 11-2:

Steven Duggar CF- 2 for 5, 3B.  BA= .255.
Austin Slater RF- 1 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .358.
Hunter Pence LF- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .326.
DJ Snelton LHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.08.

Giants have a tough one bearing down on them.  They can't credibly break up the current starting OF trio, so once Hunter Pence has to come off the DL, they have to drop either him, Gregor Blanco or Austin Jackson.  Whoever stays is not likely to see much playing time until someone gets injured or cools off.

AA  Akron Rubber Ducks defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 8-3:

Luigi Rodriguez LF- 2 for 4.  BA= .412.
Dylan Davis DH- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(6).  BA= .262.
Ronnie Jebavy CF- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .181.
Taylor Hill RHP- 4.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 5.79.

Taylor Hill is a minor league veteran and appears to have been signed out of the Nationals organization.  He has a few innings of MLB experience.

A+  Lake Elsinore Storm beat the San Jose Giants 5-3:

Jalen Miller 2B- 2 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .302.
Sandro Fabian RF- 2 for 4, HR(6).  BA= .244.
Dylan Manwaring C- 2 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .500.
Raffi Vizcaino RHP- 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.37.
Jeff Burke RHP- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 10.24.

Jalen Miller continues to enjoy a strong season.  Sandro Fabian has hit 4 dingers in his last 7 games  and 3 in his last 4, and is batting .297 over his last 10.

Low A  Rome Braves blanked the Augusta Greenjackets 3-0:

Nick Hill LF- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .259.
John Gavin LHP- 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 1.43.
Camilo Doval RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 6.19.

Camilo Doval's ERA is 2.19 over his last 10 appearances.  He has 15 K's against 3 BB's over 12.1 IP in that span.  He's still whittling down his ERA from 3 disaster appearances to start the season.

  1. Poor Luigi has to go 2-4 to raise his average -- he's 3-8 last 2 games after a 3-game slump (2-11).
Is it too soon to jump Jalen Miller to Richmond? Is 29-yo Ali Castillo played out?

    1. No reason to rush Jalen Miller. I would keep him in SJ to consolidate his success at the level, then if he's still looking strong at the end of July, promote him to Richmond to give him a preview of what he'll be facing in AA next year.

  2. Fabulous Fabian! Was hoping he would get to figuring out the league faster, he took most of the season in Augusta to really start killing the ball, good to see him doing it now in mid-May.
