The Giants failed to convert several scoring opportunities and the bullpen couldn't deal with inherited runners in the extra-innings as they followed a now-familiar formula to another loss. Key Lines:
Drew Gilbert CF- 2 for 4, 3B, RBI. BA= .240. Gilbert's 2-out triple in the second inning was the Giants only base-hit. He was stranded at 3B. The Giants had a first and third, no outs situation in the 4'th inning and came up empty. Later they had a bases-loaded, 1-out situation in the 8'th and didn't score. Gilbert drove in the only run with a single in the 7'th inning.
Logan Webb RHP- 8 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K's, 12/2 GO/AO. ERA= 3.59. Webb was masterful pitching to groundball contact and preserving his pitch count getting through 8 innings on 100 pitches. Dylan Smith RHP struck out the side in the 9'th inning but then Sam Hentges LHP allowed the inherited runner to score and on an inside-out single to RF by a RH-hitting PH and then allowed in an insurance run to score off the bats of LH batters.
Blade Tidwell RHP tries to start the next series against the Astros with a win this evening facing Hayden Wesneski RHP who comes in with an ERA of 3.86.
Once again, Giants throw out a Spring Training Roster with half the guys not even belonging in the Majors..But, that's where Buster and GMZM have left this team..
ReplyDeleteGiants season in a nutshell, Grant McCray and his sub .100 average in the lineup again..doing what he usually does..but hey at least they pinch hit for in the bottom of the 10th, with the one and only Buddy Kennedy!! Can fans get a rebate or refund?
Great start by Logan Webb, but you really gonna have to wonder where his head and desires will be at this coming off-season and next year if he makes it that far.

McCray, 25, may be running out of chances, but his raw tool kit is very high, he should be playing MLB until he proves he cannot hit, or it is imperative that the Giants need his spot for another prospect.
DeleteWould he clear waivers? The Giants may find out, but he is a unique talent with plus-plus speed, exceptional range in center field, and raw left-handed power potential.
Look forward to seeing what Marcelo Mayer can do. Would like to see Parks Harbor come up, but do they risk putting him on the 40 man roster, which subjects him as a player being locked out in 2027? Don't know if there was any mutual interest but Kenley Jansen would have been a good signing.. He's experienced reliever on a reasonable contract . Hope they try harder to improve their bullpen in 2027.
ReplyDeletemy word; this team could have a man halfway between third and home and still not score! my fever dream is for the AAA dudes to carry their SAC batting averages with them to the minors. McCray can't hit MLB pitching!!
ReplyDeletemust make edit: it should read,"all the way to the majors!" -es
