This game was competitive, at least on the pitching side, until the 7'th inning when a pair of auditioning relievers, Trent Harris RHP and Reiver Sanmartin LHP gave up a 6-spot. The Giants lineup managed just 3 baserunners in the entire game. Key Lines:
Landen Roupp RHP- 5.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 5 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.22. 3 of the 5 walks came in the 6'th and the run came in when reliever Keaton Winn walked a 4'th batter in the inning. Other than that, it was Roupp's best start out of this last 3. I didn't see the game because it wasn't shown on Fox down here in SoCal but I've read there was some sort of disrespect from Roupp when Manager Tony Vitello took him out. If so, Roupp might have had a point because he got out of a base-loaded jam in the 2'nd inning and he was only at 85 pitches, although taking him out is what most managers would do in that situation.
The 7'th inning meltdown was exacerbated by a fly ball Drew Gilbert CF lost in the Sun with his shades on his hat.
In the immortal words of Taylor Swift, the Giants will try to shake it off and win the series today with Logan Webb RHP facing Troy Melton RHP who comes in with a 1.58 ERA.

What is Gilbert doing in the lineup? We know what he is -- 4th OFer, Need to give McCray and/or Cox a long runway to see what we have. Vitello needs to stop patonizing these Tenn hotdogs.
ReplyDeleteListened to the game, frustrated when Roupp suddenly walked 3 batters in the 6th inning, and was glad he was taken out. He said later the gestures he made to Tony V was due to wanting to stay in the game get out of the jam he created himself, but he understood the decision. He needs to figure out why he gers into these jams by not throwing strikes and issuing too many walks. He also should learn not to show up his manager.

DeleteSeason has been over for a bit now, and the Giants must think that the other options for 3B or OF are not ready yet. Otherwise I have no idea why Koss and McCray are getting playing time. Plus that guy playing LF just stunk fielding wise. Man this team needs some bullpen help in the worst way.
ReplyDeleteI've heard from a few sources that the impending strike next year is impacting who the giants are going to put on the 40 man and ultimately bring up. Apparently, those on the 40 man cannot do team workouts when the strike comes and therefore, if they are on the younger side, it would likely negatively impact their development progress. So, in all likelihood, some of those who are not already on the 40 man are not going to be added and therefor their debut in the show will be sometime after the strike. So, bummer for us, but better for the kid and the future of the team....hopefully.
