Full season leagues were all idle as usual on Mondays.
DSL: Giants Orange topped Cubs Red 4-3(8 innings).
Fernando Pena 1B- 2 for 4. BA= .333.
Yoxander Benitez 2B- 2 for 3. BA= .283.
Jhon Leon RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.98.
DSL: Giants Black smashed the Nationals 12-2.
Franco Willias LF- 2 for 3, BB, 2 SB(34). BA= .398.
Joniel Hernandez SS- 2 for 5, HR(7). BA= .321.
Djean Macares CF- 1 for 4, BB, 2 SB(26).
The exciting news here is Joniel Hernandez hits his second HR in as many days. He is the 17 yo shortstop prospect who came over from the Padres in the Robbie Ray trade. I think it's is possible Hernandez ends up being the best return out of the Giants 2026 trade deadline deals.
Ironically, 10 years ago the White Sox acquired pitcher James Shields for a pennant run from the Padres for a minor league pitcher and some 17 year old shortstop, an international signing by the name of Fernando Tatis Jr. Not saying Hernandez can be the next Tatis Jr, but hey, there’s no harm in hoping history repeats itself!
ReplyDeleteI agree.. Hernandez looks like a decent contact hitter with power and has good size for a 17-year-old. Hope he plays for the Arizona team next year.

DSL Orange is good, but Black is really, really good.

How are the recruits placed?
The Giants' farm has jumped from mid-pack (or worse) to top 4 or 5, depending on who is rating, but it is seriously good!
5 Giant youths are in various Top 100's, and this does not include Eldridge.
What can we expect to succeed, Doc, 1 of 10, 2, or 3? More?
Some that we had high hopes for, like Grant McCray, look to be passé.
It's not promise, it's performance...
Not much insight into DSL assignments. The DSL seems to be fairly informal, a bit like an instructional league. Some games are 7 innings long, others 9 for no apparent reason. I've seen stat pages where players appear on both the Orange and Black teams.
DeleteDespite a Giant collapse at the MLB level, you can not say too much about how much the Giants' system has performed in 2026: They are all Winners!

The Hated Ones down south have out performed the Giants for a long time, and, although they are still doing well, SF has closed the gap: various rating services have jumped the Giants to a Top 5 System, with one @ #4.
It wasn't very long ago that SF was lost in the bottom fifth of the 30 MLB teams.

We live in an age where ultra-rich people and political leaders push boundaries to see what they can get away with and it turns out they can get away with a lot. Whatever is going on with Walter's finances, I doubt it will impact the Dodgers much, if at all. Remember once upon a time George Steinbrenner was banned from being involved with the Yankees for some type of financial malfeasance and a few years later was back in the driver's seat.
