Tyler Mahle overcame a balk-run in the third inning, which led to Tony Vitello getting ejected from the game, to pitch a Quality Start and Casey Schmitt supplied the pop with a 3-run homer. Key Lines:
Luis Arraez 2B- 2 for 4, R. BA= .332. Third multi-hit game in a row for Arraez. Otto Lopez' BA slipped by .002 so Arraez now trails him by .007 in the NL and MLB batting races.
Casey Schmitt 3B- 1 for 4, HR(19), R, 3 RBI. BA= .280. Schmitt is tied with Devers for the Giants HR lead.
Bryce Eldridge DH- 1 for 3, 2B, R. BA= .270. Eldridge keeps hanging in there. He teamed up with Jesus Rodriguez C(.238) with B2B doubles to create the Giants first run of the game in the 5'th inning.
Tyler Mahle RHP- 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 4 K's, 8/3 GO/AO. ERA= 5.31. This was Mahle's best and longest start since April 22. Hopefully just in time to goose his trade value.
J. T. Brubaker RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(1). ERA= 2.87. This is moving in the wrong direction. I can see moving Brubaker into a starting role but he does not have Closer stuff.
Trevor McDonald RHP tries for a series win today against Michael Lorenzen RHP who comes in with an ERA of 6.46.
Although it's firmly in the category of too little too late, the Giants are 17-17 in their last 34 games and have a good shot to close out the "1st half" on a positive note with a "winning" record since June 2nd.
ReplyDeletePlus, they have moved ahead of the Mets to 13th in the NL and .a.shot at catching the Reds, although without Arraez, Ray, and most likely a few others, attaining a winning 2nd half may well not happen.
