The Giants offense broke out for 6 runs in the 3'rd inning and Buster Posey broke out of his HR drought with a 2-run blast in the 4'th. The Giants coasted the rest of the way to an easy win. Key Lines:
Buster Posey- 3 for 4, HR(13). BA= .294. Buster is 7 for 9 in his last 2 games and he finally got the HR monkey off his back with his add-on blast in the 4'th inning.
Brandon Belt- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .272. Belt drew 2 walks and scored 2 runs in the first game of the series. He got 2 hits in this one. The double with 2 outs and runners on 2'nd and 3'rd was the type of hit we've been missing from him.
Matt Moore- 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 4.06. It was a struggle for Moore as he threw 93 pitches in the 5 IP. At one point, it looked like he might not get out of the 5'th inning after allowing a 2-out bases-loaded walk, but Bochy left him in and he got Jhonny Peralta on a can of corn to CF to end the inning.
Bullpen- 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. Kontos, Gearrin, Casilla and Matt Reynolds all pitched hitless innings. The only blip in a fine bullpen effort was Josh Osich walking the leadoff batter in the 7'th inning.
Luke Weaver(Cardinals)- 2.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.21. The rookie struck out the first 4 batters he faced, all swinging. The 3'rd inning started innocently enough with a 1 out walk to Denard Span. A throwing error by Yadier Molina in a sac bunt attempt by Matt Moore followed by another walk to Pagan loaded the bases. Then the roof caved in. Panik drove in a run with a SF, then the Giants reeled off 4 straight hits to blow the game open.

The Dodgers and Mets both won so the Giants remain 4 games behind the Bad Guys in the NL West and 1 up on the Mets for the first Wild Card playoff spot. They lead the Cardinals by 3 games for the second Wild Card berth.

Another great game. That 6 run inning was instant karma for that cheap interference that Aledmys Diaz pulled on Span during Molina's overthrow. Buster looks like he may finally get into one of his post All-Star break hot streaks. Next man up! Lets go Shark, keep the momentum going.
ReplyDeleteGood to see Posey finally hit a dinger. Looked like Moore lost his rhythm after sitting through the Giants 6 run 3rd inning. Moving Spann to the 8th spot was long overdue. Any thoughts on the latest controversy regarding AJ Preller and the Padres. The guy can't seem to stay out of the negative spotlight.
