  1. Dr B, thoughts on the Giants' interest in Rusney Castillo (along with pretty much every other team)? Maybe they'd rather spend the $$ than trade away prospects? Glad to hear that they are at least kicking the tires on the free agents.

  2. I think international free agents can be a way to build up your farm system pretty quick. The problem is that with some of these free agents scouting data is limited and you have to go off a few showcases which is such a small sample size. With guys like Jose Abreu there was good data to go off but it is a risk to know whether they can handle MLB pitching. Abreu is a beast and I wish we could have got him. I heard the Giants did have interest but the Sox gave him a huge offer.

Castillo sounds like a gap hitter with tons of speed. I think we thought Gary Brown would be that guy but after advanced A he took a nose dive. I hope the Giants make a competitive offer for Castillo and any other highly touted international free agent that comes out. I think we are a top club who should be aggressive whenever it makes sense. 175MM for Tanaka was just ridiculous and even though he has been excellent minus the injury, it is just too much money for someone who has not played in the MLB.
