Giants Organizational Depth Charts: Right Field

We talk a lot about how the Giants are stuck with albatross contracts at third base and shortstop but right field might be as big or bigger problem after Jung Hoo Lee's second half collapse in 2026.  There is not a lot of depth behind him although RF is a potential position for Bo Davidson.  The ideal right fielder is a player who can hit 30 home runs and has a cannon for an arm to throw out runners at third base.  Catchers who aren't great behind the plate and who can run a little sometimes make good RF's because they have great throwing arms.  Let's break it down.

MLB:

Jung Hoo Lee:  DOB:  8/20/1998.  B- L, T-R.  6' 0", 196 lbs.  Under contract through 2029 with opt-out after 2027.  AAV= $18.83 M.

2026(MLB):  .276/.320/.404, 31 2B, 4 3B, 10 HR, 12 SB, 5.0 BB%, 9.8 K%, 579 PA, 1.0 fWAR.

2026(2'nd Half):  .236/.298/.365, 208 PA.

Bo Davidson: DOB:  7/5/2002.  B-L, T-R.  6' 1", 225 lbs.  3 Options.

2026(AA):  .277/.340/.521, 19 HR, 14 SB, 8.9 BB%, 23.5 K%, 315 PA.

2026(AAA):  .309/.389/.534, 10 HR, 6 SB, 10.7 BB%, 18.8 K%, 234 PA.

Grant McCray:  DOB:  12/7/2000.  B-L, T-R.  6' 1", 195 lbs.  1 Option.

2026(AAA):  .233/.352/.356, 4 HR, 12 SB, 15.2 BB%, 23.0 K%, 244 PA.

2026(MLB):  .143/.250/.273, 2 HR, 8 SB, 12.1 BB%, 30.8 K%, 91 PA.

We'll make an exception to the one position per player rule and list Bo Davidson in CF and RF.  We could actually list him at all 3 OF positions.  It comes down to 4 interlocking positions and which alignment we think gives the Giants the best lineup. 2B, LF, CF, RF:  Marcelo Mayer 2B, Casey Schmitt 2B/LF, Jonah Cox 2B/CF, Drew Gilbert CF(platoon only), Jung Hoo Lee RF and Bo Davidson CF/RF/LF.  Davidson has the least MLB experience but has by far the highest ceiling.

AAA:  None.

AA:

Jack Payton:  DOB:  8/7/2001.  B-R, T-R.  5' 11", 209 lbs.  Rule 5 Eligible.

2026(A+):  .259/.355/.556, 2 HR, 2 SB, 9.7 BB%, 22.6 K%, 31 PA.

2026(AA):  .270/.340/.369, 3 HR, 8 SB, 8.8 BB%, 21.5 K%, 297 PA.

Drafted as a catcher.  Hasn't really hit enough to be a serious OF prospect.

A+:  

Cam Maldonado:  DOB:  11/8/2003.  B-R, T-R.  6' 2", 199 lbs.  Rule 5 Eligible Dec. 2028.

2026(A):  .263/.341/.484, 12 2B, 4 3B, 14 HR, 17 SB, 10.5 BB%, 26.0 K%, 323 PA.

Very intriguing first full pro season.  Power really came on late in the season.  You can close your eyes and dream of a future Giants OF with Bo Davidson in CF and Cam in RF.

Charlie Bussey III:  DOB:    B-R, T-R.  6' 2", 205 lbs.  Drafted 2026 Round 11.

Broedy Poppell:  DOB:  6/13/2002.  B-S, T-R.  5' 11", 200 lbs.  Rule 5 Eligible Dec. 2028.

2026(A):  .246/.359/.408, 14 2B, 2 3B, 8 HR, 15 SB, 12.3 BB%, 27.7 K%, 310 PA.

Poppell was also drafted as a catcher but seemed to be off the catcher depth chart in San Jose.  Briefly sent down to the ACL where he played catcher then back up to San Jose where he played OF.  Bussey has yet to play in a pro game.

Carter Rust:  DOB:  8/13/2002.  B-R, T-R.  6' 4", 190 lbs.

Evan Estevez:  DOB:  8/14/2007.  B-R, T-R.  6' 2", 213 lbs.  Rule 5 Eligible Dec. 2028.

Carlos Concepcion:  DOB:  1/6/2006.  B-R, T-R.  6' 1", 189 lbs.  Rule 5 Eligible Dec. 2027.

Rust was an undrafted free agent who has yet to play a pro game.  Estevez and Concepcion both also play 1B.
