Seems like Jonah Cox should get the chance to win the everyday CF role for the Giants at some point. That game-changing speed needs a chance to have more of an impact than just in occasional pinch-running roles.

ReplyDeleteAm I wearing orange-colored glasses for really liking this Hernandez kid? He was a big-bonus signing by a team that has historically done rather well in the international market and has put up good numbers in his first pro season. Why are people not noticing this kid?
ReplyDeleteIt was a GREAT get, probably 3-4 years away but the Phillies probably spent 3 years exciting and preparing to sign this IFA at 17 yo, and spent time with the work on relationships in Cuba to get it done.

Agreed! Perplexing to give a kid $1.3 million out of Cuba, watch him hit appropriately for a standout his age in the right placement then act like he’s just a “toss in.” If you look at his stats, he also has great bat control, with more walks than strikeouts. I will be curious how he develops, but cautiously optimistic. We’ve given big paydays to the Rayner Arias and Lucius Fox’s of the world only to be disappointed, so time will tell!

DeleteI agree. Cox should play cf instead of McCray, who has never been a very good hitter. I like Gilbert more than McCray too. Keep Davidson in 3A so he can play when the greedy owners lockout the major leaguers after the CBA ends.
