DrB's 2024 Giants Top 50 Prospects: #4 Walker Martin

4.  Walker Martin SS.  DOB:  2/20/2004.  B-L, T-R.  6'2", 188 lbs.

Two-sport athlete out of Colorado which is not exactly a hotbed of HS baseball talent.  An eye-opening performance at the Area Code Games in 2022 put him on the scouting radar.  The Giants were known to be in on him pre-draft but analyists were not sure if for the first or second round.  He seemed like a bit of a reach for mi- round 1 but also not likely to stay on the board until mid-round 2 so it was a pleasant surprise to see the Giants land both Eldridge and Walker.  It's not clear to me why we did not see Martin's name in minor league boxscores after the draft.  He'll turn 20 yo in a few days so has come developmental catching up to do.

MLB Draft Tracker gives him 50-55 tools across the board.  Per Fangraphs Martin has a "sweet lefty stroke, a projectable frame and the arm and actions to stay at short."  FG also said in short showcase looks his feel to hit looked "quite undercooked" and concludes by saying he is a "very risky older infield prospect with a gorgeous swing."

I have a feeling the Giants will assign him to extended spring training and the ACL which delays his pro debut event further?  I would like to see him in SJ just because I think he needs to get on the field in pro ball already.
