Game Wrap 8/30/2023: Reds 4 Giants 1
The euphoria from the sensational pitching in the last two games didn't hang around long as the Giants lineup went back into their shell leaving Logan Webb with another hard-luck loss. Key Lines:
Casey Schmitt 3B/SS- 2 for 3, 2 2B. BA= .201. Schmitt's slash line over his last 7 games is .250/.333/.563. That's a welcome trend we hope will continue. Maybe he's finally starting to make the secondary adjustment all young players have to make after the league figures out their weakness.
Logan Webb RHP- 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.49. Quality Start after two non-quality starts but it still wasn't good enough.
The Loss left the Giants tied with the D'Backs for the final Wild Card playoff spot.
The Giants get a day off then start a road trip in Petco Park Friday night with TBD facing Pedro Avila RHP. I'll be in attendance with some friends.
Churn Watch: Mike Yastrzemski OF was activated from the IL and Luis Matos OF was optioned to AAA Sacramento. Not sure I'm thrilled with this move as Matos is batting .294 with a SLG% of .529 over his last 7 games. YtY may be a better option ROS but he generally takes awhile to find traction after a IL stint then gets it going just in time to get injured again.

Game Wrap 8/29/2023: Giants 6 Reds 1
Alex Cobb came within 1 out of a no-hitter but settled for a complete game win while wearing the "creamsicle" City Connect uniforms which have become quite the thing for the Giants. Key Lines:
Austin Slater CF- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .267. Slater seems to be definitely out of his slump. He also made a long running and diving catch of a bloop to CF to keep the no-hitter alive with the third out on the 8'th inning.
Patrick Bailey C- 2 for 4, HR(7). BA= .260. Bailey is 4 for 11 with a walk over his last 3 games. He's hitting just .231 over his last 7 though. Oh, and he came within an out of catching a no-hitter.
Alex Cobb RHP- 9 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 8 K's, GO/AO= 13/5. ERA= 3.57. Cobb had an unhittable diving 90 MPH splitter going from the first batter and used it a lot. Cobb almost lost the no-hitter with 2 outs in the 3'rd inning as Nick Senzel grounded one down the 3B line that Casey Schmitt 3B fielded behind the bang and foul territory somewhat reminiscent of Joaquin Arias and the final out of Matt Cain's Perfect Game except Schmitt's throw was high and pulled J. D. Davis off 1B. It was initially ruled a hit over Kruk and Kuip's objections but quickly changed to a very tough error on the rook. I can see the argument for the error but if he'd made a perfect throw and gotten the out, it would have been a great play.
After that, the Reds did not sniff a hit until the bloop that Slater caught to end the 8'th inning. Cobb did not seem quite as sharp in the 9'th as his pitch count climbed beyond the usual limits. It ended when Spencer Steer roped a double into the R-CF gap that was a no-doubter and drove in a baserunner who reached by walk to also end the shutout. Cobb stayed in the game to record the final out by K and came off to a standing O from the crowd and lots of handshakes and hugs from teammates. Cobb joins Forever Giants Matt Moore LHP and Yusmeiro Petit RHP who lost no-hitters with 2-outs in the 9'th inning in relatively recent years. Petit's was even a perfecto when he lost his.
When I was a kid, Tom Seaver lost a perfect game against the Cubs with 2 outs in the ninth on a soft liner by Jimmy Qualls. Then in 1975, Seaver lost a no-hitter, also against the Cubs, with 2 outs in the 9'th inning. In 1967, Billy Rohr, a rookie LHP making his first MLB start for the Red Sox against the Yankees came within 1 out of a no-hitter when Elston Howard broke it up with a soft single. Bill Rohr only won 2 more games in an injury-shortened MLB career. He went on to become a successful attorney. I have met him personally several times and reminisced about seeing him on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
With the Win, the Giants passed the D'Backs for the lead in the race for the final Wild Card playoff spot.
Logan Webb RHP goes for the swweeeep tomorrow afternoon facing Hunter Greene RHP. Webb has a couple of tough acts to follow after Kyle Harrison LHP's electrifying performance Monday and Cobb's near no-no tonight.
Churn Watch: Mitch Haniger OF was activated from the 60-day IL and started the game in LF. Heliot Ramos was optioned to AAA Sacramento and Bryce Johnson OF was DFA'd to make room on the 40-man roster. The DFA's are getting more painful. I guess that's a good sign?

Game Wrap 8/28/2023: Giants 4 Reds 1
To say Kyle Harrison's introduction to the home crowd in Oracle Park was electric might be the understatement of the decade. As Bill King would say, Holy Toledo! I am pretty sure you have to go all the way to Juan Marichal for something comparable. OK, maybe John "The Count" Montefusco, but you get the picture. The Giants offense cobbled together 4 runs and 3 other Giants pitchers appeared in the game but there is really only one story to this game, one people may be telling their kids and grandkids about for years to come. Key Lines:
Kyle Harrison LHP- 6.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 11 K. ERA= 1.86. Electric indeed. Harrison's FB wasn't just 96-97 MPH. It was delivered out of a short arm tight circle making it tough for hitters to time and then was hopping at home plate with late movement. He threw almost all fastballs through the first 3 innings then deftly changed it up to mix in sliders, curveballs and changeups to keep the Reds lineup completely off balance. Kap almost spoiled the party by letting him come out for the 7'th inning but a tremendous throw from Luis Matos in RF and tag by Patrick Bailey at the plate preserved his scoreless start. The Kyle Harrison Era dawns and a new star is born!
IDK where this win leaves the Giants in the standings. I really don't care!
Alex Cobb RHP tries to keep the winning going tomorrow evening against Brandon Williamson LHP.

Game Wrap 8/27/2023: Giants 8 Braves 5
The Giants played with enthusiasm and determination in a game that saw several momentum swings to salvage to avoid a sweep of the 3-game series. Key Lines:
Austin Slater CF/RF- 2 for 3, 2 BB. BA= .255. Slater was literally 0 for the month of August until two games ago. over his last 3 games he's gone 4 for 7 with 3 walks.
Down on the Farm: 8/26/2023

Game Wrap 8/26/2023: Braves 7 Giants 3
Wilmer Flores, perhaps the only member of the Giants starting lineup who could hang with the Braves lineup, gave Giants fans a moment of hope with a 2-run HR to CF in the third inning to tie the score but like last night, the Giants were inexorably ground down by an obviously more talented team on both sides of the ball in another dispiriting loss. Key Lines:
Wilmer Flores DH- 1 for 4, HR(18). BA= .299. See above.
Heliot Ramos LF/RF- 1 for 3, BB. BA= .227. Yes, it's cherry picking stats but Heliot's August slash line split is .278/.381/.556 in 21 PA's. I'm not sure what we have to lose by seeing a lot more of him over the next week or two.
The Giants used 5 pitchers in the game who all gave up at least 1 ER. As I watched Jake Junis RHP pitch the last two innings it struck me. Can anyone tell me what any of these guys roles are? Kap has had success with his mix and match style but the lines between his own nomenclature of "Featured Pitcher", "Multi-innings" and "1 inning pitchers" now seem blurred beyond recognition( I tried to look up Kap's exact designations but Google wasn't cooperative).
At this writing, the Cubs lead their game 8-1 so it looks like the Giants will fall 2 games off the Wild Card pace.
Tristan Beck RHP finally gets a shot at starting tomorrow as he tries to.....tell me if you've heard this before....stave off a sweep of the 3-game series.
Down on the Farm: 8/25/2023
AAA: Sacramento River Cats defeated the El Paso Chihuahuas 6-3.
Game Wrap 8/25/2023: Braves 5 Giants 1
The Giants were inexorably ground into dust by a clearly superior team. At least that was how it felt. Key Lines:
Wade Meckler CF- 2 for 2, BB. BA= .267. In his last 3 games, Meck has 5 hits in 9 AB's with 2 BB's. He's sustained BABIP's of over .400 over multiple levels now. That's probably not sustainable but his BB and K rates were stellar in the minors so even if the BABIP normalizes, he should be a better than decent on-base/leadoff type hitter. That skillset plays quite well out of the #9 hole too. We may have a keeper here.
Logan Webb RHP- 5.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 1 K, GO/AO= 10/2. ERA= 3.51. Webby was getting groundballs but wasn't missing bats and that's not going to get it done against a lineup like the Braves run out there. I mean, if you have two equally talented pitchers and one faces the Braves lineup and the other faces the Giants lineup, which pitcher is going to win the game?
Alex Wood LHP- 3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 4.52. Wood is still pitching mop-up. Could he re-emerge in higher leverage situations down the stretch?
The Loss drops the Giants a full game behind the Cubs in the race for the 3'rd and final Wild Card playoff spot.
Ryan Walker RHP opens game 2 of the series this afternoon facing Max Fried LHP. Free Heliot!
Churn Watch: Michael Conforto OF hits the IL with a hammy, grade 2 no less. Didn't see that one coming but also not surprised. He might be back by October IF the Giants are still playing. Heliot Ramos OF gets the the recall to replace Conforto on the Active Roster. You have to think at this point there is a strong possibility Conforto does not opt out of the second year of his contract which will pay him $18 M next season.

Game Wrap 8/23/2023: Giants 8 Phillies 6
Newcomer Paul DeJong made an immediate impact leading the Giants offense in a torturous, nail-bitting extra-innings win. Key Lines:
Thairo Estrada 2B- 2 for 5, SF, SB(19). BA= .280. Estrada continues to be possibly the Giants best all-around player. Probably no accident the offense has been better since his return from the IL.
Wilmer Flores 1B- 2 for 4, HR(18), BB. BA= .304. Wilmer may have something to say about who is the Giants best all-around player. He's been an absolute monster at the plate this season.
Austin Slater PH/CF- 2 for 2, 2B. BA= .250. Slater has been in a brutal slump but Kap stubbornly PH him for Conforto against the LHP and just like that, Slater broke out of his slump to drive in the insurance run that allowed the Giants to survive Doval's 9'th inning meltdown and ultimately win the game.
Wade Meckler CF/LF- 2 for 3, BB, HBP. BA= .214. Meckler has also been struggling but reached base 3 times and scored 3 runs in this one.
Paul DeJong SS- 3 for 5, HR(14). BA= .216. Wow! There was talk of trading for DeJong at the deadline but instead he went to the Blue Jays where he hit less than .100 in 13 games and was released as soon as Bichette came back. FZ picks him up for free and he makes and basically wins the game for the Giants with 4 RBI's. Take that, FZ haters!
Alex Cobb RHP- 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 6/1. ERA= 3.74. Cobb has had his own struggles. Giants used a total of 10 pitchers in this game so Cobb's start was long forgotten by the end of the game but was a huge contributor to the win. The Giants need Cobb to be good to have any hope of competing down the stretch.
Tristan Beck RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.34. Beck continues to be a stud in a variety of roles.
Camilo Doval RHP- 0 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 0 K, BS(7). ERA= 3.09. This is starting to get worrisome. Another guy who needs to right the ship for the Giants to compete for the postseason.
The Win brought the Giants into a tie with the D'Backs and Reds for the 3'rd and final Wild Card playoff spot. The Giants ended up going 2-4 on midsummer east coast road trip against two very good teams and came very close to winning two more games which would have swung it to 4-2. That's about as good as we could expect but now they have to do better at home.
The Giants get a day to travel back home and rest up before starting a 3-game weekend series against the Braves with TBD facing Spencer Strider RHP on Friday evening.
Churn Watch:
Johan Camargo IF was the 40-man roster casualty from the addition of DeJong. He was DFA'd. I am not so sure that is a great trade-off in the long run but I can't deny the immediate impact DeJong made. If the Giants end up getting into the postseason, we may look back at DeJong's performance today as what saved the season. Wish Camargo the best. He was a good Giant for a very short time.

Game Wrap 8/22/2023: Phillies 4 Giants 3
The dawning of the Kyle Harrison Era ended in disappointment as Camilo Doval RHP gave up a bases-loaded walk-off single to Trea Turner SS for a come-from-behind win by the Phillies. Key Lines:
Thairo Estrada 2B- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .278. The top 4 batters in the lineup, LMWJ, Estrada, Wilmer and Joc went a combined 6 for 17 with 2 walks while the bottom 5 went 2 for 18 with 2 walks.
Kyle Harrison LHP- 3.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA- 5.40. Harrison gave up a 2-run HR to Bryce Harper in the first inning. Other than that, he looked quite sharp. He came out after his 65'th pitch which I'm guessing was his hard pitch count for the night. As MLB debuts go, this one seems quite promising. Just looking at some video here, it appears Harrison had his FB up to 97 MPH and sitting 95-97. He's got a very quick, short-arm delivery which makes hard to time the pitch and the ball hard to pick up before it's out of his hand.
After Harrison left it was a bullpen game which held the Phillies scoreless until the disappointing 9'th inning.
The Loss dropped the Giants out of a Wild Card position trailing the Cubs by 0.5 games.
Alex Cobb RHP tries to avoid the sweep tomorrow afternoon against Michael Lorenzen RHP who the Giants could have traded for at the trade deadline.
Churn Watch:
In addition to Harrison's promotion, Ryan Walker RHP was reinstated from paternity leave. Sean Hjelle RHP and Heliot Ramos OF were optioned back to AAA Sacramento. Mark Matthias IF was placed on the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster for Harrison.

Game Wrap 8/21/2023: Phillies 10 Giants 4
The Giants are not built to win slugfests in bandboxes and that's what this game turned into. Key Lines:
Lamonte Wade Jr. 1B- 1 for 4, HR(13). BA= .259. LMWJ missed a game with after leaving Saturday's game with what was described as a leg cramp. He led off the third inning with a solo HR.

Down on the Farm: 8/20/2023
AAA: Sacramento River Cats blanked the Tacoma Rainiers 5-0.
Game Wrap 8/10/2023: Giants 4 Braves 3
It seemed like a familiar story when the Giants lost the lead in the 8'th inning but they came back the hard way in the 9'th with 2 walks and 2 HBP's and Camilo Doval slammed the door on the Braves to avoid the sweep in the ATL. Key Lines:
Thairo Estrada 2B- 2 for 4, 2B, HBP. BA= .274. Estrada was heating up after coming off the IL with a fractured hand batting .370 over his last 7 games. He got hit in the opposite hand(his right) as one of the HBP's that led to the win. It looked to me like he was moving the hand around pretty good at 1B but he's be evaluated further.
Wilmer Flores 1B- 2 for 4, HR(17), HBP. BA= .301. Wilmer is having a fantastic season but in the bigger picture it's probably not a great sign if he's leading your team in HR's.
J. D. Davis DH- 2 for 5. BA= .249. Davis has been in a pretty bad extended slump(.173 over his last 30 games). Maybe he's coming out of hit with 4 hits in 8 AB's over his last 2 games.
Luis Matos LF/CF/LF/CF- 2 for 5, HR(2). BA= .245. I doubt Matos gained much strength back in Sacramento but it was good to see him hit a HR pretty deep into the bleachers to give the Giants their first lead in the second inning.
Pitchers- 9 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 14/2. Tristan Beck RHP looked fantastic against his old organization with 3 shutout innings. Camilo Doval RHP came in with 2 runners on base and 1 out in the 8'th inning. Ronald Acuna Jr scored after stealing 3B on a wild throw by Patrick Bailey C, but Doval struck out Ozuna to end the inning then after the Giants scored in the top of the 9'th, he shut them down for the W.
After the Win, the Giants trail the Phillies for the first Wild Card playoff spot by 2 games and lead the Cubs by 0.5 games for the second spot.
The Giants move on to Philadelphia for a 3-gamer against Wild Card rivals, the Phillies. Scott Alexander LHP opens Monday evening against Aaron Nola RHP. Manager Gabe Kapler confirmed Kyle Harrison LHP will be called up from AAA Sacramento and start on Tuesday. That will require dropping someone from the 40-man roster so stay tuned to Churn Watch for details.

AAA: Tacoma Rainiers outscored the Sacramento River Cats 6-5.
Game Wrap 8/19/2023: Braves 6 Giants 5
Eddie Rosario's 2-out, 2-run HR in the 8'th inning off Tyler Rogers erased the Giants third lead of the game and they didn't get it back in an extremely disappointing defeat. Key Lines:
LaMonte Wade Jr 1B- 2 for 4, HR(12). BA= .259. LMWJ homered on the first pitch of the game. He later singled but pulled up slow at 1B grabbing the right side of his back and left the game for a PR.
Wade Meckler CF- 0 for 3, 3 K. BA= .179. So this last promotion might have been a bridge too far for Meck as he seems completely outclassed. Meanwhile, Heliot had several very hard hits and has been grabbing a lot of pine since. Free Heliot!
Michael Conforto RF, J. D. Davis 3B/1B and Blake Sabol C had 2 hits each from the 5, 6 and 7 spots in the lineup. Maybe a glimmer of hope this lineup can put together a rally or two.
Logan Webb RHP- 6 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 5 K, GO/AO= 10/0. ERA= 3.36. Hard to tell if Webb was a bit off or if the Braves lineup is just that good. Webb blamed it on leaving too many balls over too much of he plate.
Tyler Rogers RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K, GO/AO= 3/0. ERA= 2.73. Giants appeared to be in good shape with a one run lead, 2 outs and a runner on first, but Rosario was already red hot coming intot he game and torched Webb for 3 hits. Ownage is ownage and when you're hot, you're hot. Game over.
The Loss dropped the Giants 0.5 games behind in the Wild Card race. Hey! You can't keep losing and have it not happen at some point!
Jake Junis RHP tries to stave off a sweep today facing Max Fried LHP which.....well, it doesn't look like a favorable matchup.

Game Wrap 8/16/2023: Rays 6 Giants 1
The euphoria from last night's excellent win didn't last long as the offense went back to sputtering and Ross Stripling RHP had a relapse of goferitis.
Unfortunately the highlight of the game was an inside-the-park HR by someone named Luke Raley who plays for the Rays. The ball made a huge carom off the brick wall above Triples Alley and skittered along the top of the CF wall then rolled in the dirt of the warning track all the way to LF with Giants OF's chasing after it like kids on a playground. Crazy stuff. Too bad it was for the wrong team.
After the Loss the Giants trail the Phillies by 2 games for the top Wild Card playoff spot while leading 3 teams by 1.5 games for the second spot.

Game Wrap 8/15/2023: Giants 7 Rays 0
The Giants offense woke up in the 6'th inning breaking open a scoreless pitching duel and they won this one going away. Key Lines:
Wade Meckler CF- 2 for 4. BA= .286. Meckler had been getting the rookie treatment from the umps until Kap had enough in the 4'th inning and was ejected for (justifiably) yelling at the ump. Getting tossed gave him the opportunity to fill the ump in on the fact that the Giants checked the video and he blew 3 calls on Meckler alone, at least per Kruk and Kuip. For his part, Meckler rewarded the show of support by his first two MLB hits and scoring a run.
Wilmer Flores 3B/1B- 1 for 4, HR(16). BA= .300. Thairo Estrada 2B led off the 6'th inning with a HR. After Meckler got his first MLB hit, Flores drove him in with a 2-run shot in the same general area as Estrada's blast. BTW, Estrada was batting 9'th. Also BTW, if you wondered who the emergency catcher is when Kai pinch ran for Blake Sabol LF, it's Wilmer.
Michael Conforto RF- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .251. Conforto stays hot, 7 for 10 over his last 3 games.
Jake Junis RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 4.10. If I was sitting in FZ's office, I would have DFA'd Junis awhile back. Shows how much I know. I do wish he was a bit more consistent, though.
Sean Manaea LHP- 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 4.89. Manaea obviously has a short leash. Kai brought in Tyler Rogers RHP with 1 out and a runner on 1B. GIDP.
Luke Jackson RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.50. Nice recovery from a terrible appearance last night.

When the highlight of the game is Dave Flemming serving as the Bat Boy for the first 3 innings, you know it was not an entertaining or competitive game.
Michael Conforto RF missed a HR that went foul by a foot or two. He settled for reaching base 3 times. Unfortunately in this lineup all that gets you is stranded.
Thairo Estrada 2B had two hits and actually drove in a couple of runs.
Ryan Walker RHP struck out 4 batters in 2 scoreless IP to open the game. The pitching was dreadful from that point on.
It might be time for Tristan Beck RHP to switch leagues with Kyle Harrison LHP as long as we are churning the kids.
The Loss shrank the Giants lead for the second Wild Card playoff spot to 0.5 games over the Marlins.
The Giants send out TBD to start tomorrow's game against non-other than not-so-good Giant Zack Littell RHP who just might feel like he has a thing or two to prove to the Giants in general and Gabe Kapler in particular.
Churn Watch:

Game Wrap 8/13/2023: Giants 3 Rangers 2(10 innings)
Patrick Bailey's walkoff 2-run HR in the 10'th inning turned a bitterly disappointing loss into a glorious win. Key Lines:
Thairo Estrada 2B/SS- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .271. Estrada doing his job out of the 2-hole in the lineup. Didn't figure into the scoring due to Giants frustrating inability to drive in runners on base even with no outs.
Patrick Bailey C- 2 for 5, HR(6). BA= .267. Bailey shows he still has something in the tank, hitting .429 over his last 7 games.
Michael Conforto RF- 2 for 3, HR(15), BB. BA= .242. Disappointing season so far for Conforto but he still has time to put together a hot streak to help carry this team. Identical lines 2 games in a row is a good place to start.
Logan Webb RHP- 8.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 14/3. ERA= 3.26. What a gem by Webb! Came up 1 out short of a shutout. Some discussion re. Kap pulling him one out shy of a shutout and a runner on 2B. Eh! Same thing could have happened if he'd stayed in and Kap would be criticized for leaving him in too long. He was up to 107 pitches. The tying run scored on on a weird play. Runner on 2B came all the way home on groundball to the hole. Fluke play could have happened to any pitcher or any decision.
The Win leaves the Giants trailing the Phillies for the top Wild Card playoff spot by 1.5 games and leading the Marlins for the 2'nd spot by 1.5 games.

Game Wrap 8/12/2023: Rangers 9 Giants 3
The Giants had a chance to break this one open early when they loaded the bases with no outs against Andrew Heaney LHP, the Rangers SP. Gabe Kapler stacked his lineup with RH batters and they were matching up well against Heaney. Then a funny thing happened. Heaney got Mark Mathias 2B, the #9 hitter on a K, then Forever Giant and Future Hall of Fame Manager Bruce Bochy made his move. He brought in a sidearming Grant Anderson RHP to face Austin Slater CF who promptly GIDP. Threat over, inning over. And for all practical purposes, game over. Kap had a choice between emptying his bench early in the game or accepting the unfavorable matchups. Great piece of managing by The Master and do you think he might have been trolling Kap just a teeny bit with that move?
Michael Conforto DH- 2 for 3, HR(14), BB. BA= .238. It's been a disappointing season for Conforto so far. Can he go on one of his hot streaks to save the Giants season? A couple of veteran hitters are going to have to step up and stand in the gap if the Giants are to come out of this offensive funk and compete for a wild card playoff spot.
Heliot Ramos RF/CF- 1 for 3, HR(1), BB. BA= .233. Ramos is 2 for 4, 2B, HR, BB. Since his call up. Can he please stay in the lineup for at least 50 PA's and see if he can finally find some traction?
Alex Cobb gave up 6 runs in 4.1 IP for his second subpar start in a row. Alex Wood LHP failed to build confidence in him as he allowed 3 runs in 4 IP in relief
Giants lead over the Cubs for the second Wild Card playoff spot shrank to 1 game.
Logan Webb RHP tries to stave off the sweep tomorrow afternoon facing Dane Dunning RHP.

Game Wrap 8/11/2023: Rangers 2 Giants 1
Ross Stripling gave up a pair of solo HR's in the 6'th inning, his final inning of work. That proved to be too much for the Giants impotent lineup to overcome. Key Lines:
Ross Stripling RHP- 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 5.10. Stripling was the Featured Pitcher. Since coming off the IL on 6/28, Strip has an ERA of 3.38 in 40 IP. Which is pretty much what the Giants signed him to do at $12.5 M/yr. That should also be good enough to rack up a bunch of W's but it's not goo enough to overcome the Giants current lack of offense.
Heliot Ramos entered the game as a PH for LMWJ in the 8'th inning, doubled and scored the Giants only run continuing a pattern of late scoring which is too little, too late. At this point I'm not sure what they have to lose to put him out there for 50 PA's and see if he can find some traction.
The Loss dropped the Giants 7.5 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West and 2.5 games behind the Phillies for the top Wild Card playoff spot. They lead the Cubs and Reds by 2 games for the 2'nd wild card spot.
Alex Cobb RHP tries to even the series this evening against Andrew Heaney LHP.
