Time to revive and roll out the top 50 prospect list. As always, please don't get too hung up on the exact order here. It's just too hard to accurately weight proximity/experience vs ceiling, pitching vs hitting and positional strength to get too precise in these listings. The main purpose of the exercise is to get a better idea of who we might see playing in a Giants uniform in coming years. With that said, on to the list!

At the time of the 2021 Draft you were cautiously optimistic. Have you cooled on it or is it just too soon to see anything beyond the top 2? They put out fair bucks for Eric Silva and Mason Black but Silva hasn't showed much and Black seemingly nothing! Some picks had stats in the ACL but nothing stood out.
ReplyDeleteI am quite high in Bednar and Mikulski and cautiously optimistic about Silva. The rest is a crapshoot but I like that they stocked up on arms to address a glaring organizational imbalance. Basically it's just too soon to tell about the rest of the draft.
DeleteI'd much rather see the versatile Brett Auerbach (maybe the steal of the 2020 NDFA pool) or Randy Rodriguez (recently added to the 40man) ranked on your list than see the abysmal Logan Wyatt. Also maybe Sammy Long? Regardless, I understand the list, and appreciate you taking the time to make one.
DeleteAuerbach had a nice season and has a chance to be a nice utility player(catching experience doesn't hurt those chances). I agree Logan Wyatt is riding almost exclusively on his draft position. He does have a very nice walk rate. If he can find just a little bit of power somewhere, he's suddenly a very nice prospect. I kind of forgot about Randy Rodriguez who has an outside chance of pitching for the Giants in 2022.
DeleteDo you think Brett Auerbach desires consideration Doc?
ReplyDeleteBelated Happy New Year!!

See my reply above.
DeleteWhat about Austin Reich and Kai-Wei Teng? Shouldn't they be on the list?
ReplyDeleteTeng is #22. Not sure why Austin Reich would be on.
DeleteMy error on Teng. Reich had a very good year in 2021 while pitching out of the bullpen for San Jose and Eugene. You might want to take a look at his numbers, especially his k/bb ratio.
ReplyDeleteAfter a uneventful draftless career in college and little to commend himself, Reich seemed to secretly find something during the 2020 lost year and was pretty good in 2021 at 2 levels. He even threw an "immaculate inning" for the A+ Emeralds.
