The D'Backs jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 2 innings off Johnny Cueto RHP, but this time the Giants bullpen picked up the starter in a come-from-behind win. Game Notes:
Cueto settled down and pitched scoreless ball for the next 3 innings after spotting the D'Backs a 4-run lead in the first two.
Caleb Baragar LHP, Nick Tropeano RHP, Jake McGee LHP and Tyler Rogers RHP held the D'Backs scoreless over the final 4 frames. McGee pitched the 8'th and Rogers got the Save(6) further solidifying Rogers role as Closer.
Darin Ruf 1B who was starting against a RHP because Brandon Belt 1B went on the IL with a side strain left the game early with an apparent hammy strain. He was replaced by Jason Vosler PR/1B who drove in the winning run with a solo HR in the 8'th, B2B with Austin Slater PH/CF who got the Giants even with a 2-run HR as a PH for Alex Dickerson. I'd say those L-R/R-L matchups are the ticket, but Vosler hit is HR off a lefty.

The Win gave the Giants a two game sweep against the D'Backs and put them in a tie with the Dodgers for second place in the NL West 1.5 games behind the Padres who just keep winning.

The Giants now move on to El Lay to start a big 4-game series against the Dodgers with Alex Wood LHP getting the first start tomorrow night against TBD. BTW, remember Trevor Bauer RHP throwing 126 pitches against the Giants last start? He lost to the Astros tonight and won't be facing the Giants in the upcoming series.

Braden Bishop OF and Trevor Hildenberger RHP both cleared waivers and were outrighted to Sacramento which means they stay in the Giants organization, for now.
First wave of minor league promotions, all pitchers:
Sam Long LHP moves up from AA Richmond to AAA Sacramento. Caleb Kilian RHP and Jose Marte RHP move up from High A Eugene to AA Richmond.
Doc- Any thoughts on keeping Tauchman in the lineup over Austin Slater. I realize there is a lefty/righty situation, but it seems that Tauchman has been given a very long leash and has not shown much yet. Slater scuffled, but has hit two HRs in last two games he has played.
ReplyDeleteI've liked Slater's size and athleticism since the Giants drafted him. I feel like he has more in the tank and wonder if he might improved his splits with more exposure to RHP's. Tough to argue with the results FZ and Kap are getting though.
DeleteReally tough to argue — but is "Grave" Duggar the 4th LHB OFer option?
DeleteHe's the red hottest Giant in both the last 7 and 15 games, .425 & .345 respectively!
I don't understand Yaz in the leadoff spot. He's practically immobile and is a strikeout machine. I get that he's been adequate to good in the last few seasons, but he'd be better at 2, moving Posey down to 3. Stick Duggar in leadoff.
