Game Wrap 6/16/2018: Dodgers 3 Giants 1

A QS by Madison Bumgarner was not enough as the Giants offense continued to sputter, this time against Dodgers LHP Alex Wood.  Key Lines:

Mac Williamson LF- 1 for 2, 2 BB.  BA= .247.  Mac's hard single through the left side to start the 5'th inning keyed the only scoring rally of the game for the Giants.  He scored on a SF by Alen Hanson.

Madison Bumgarner LHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.67.  Bummy is still searching for his groove since the long DL stint as evidenced by the K/BB.

Reyes Moronta RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.93.  Moronta was hitting 98 MPH on the gun with some consistency.

The D'backs trail the Mets 5-1 in the 9'th inning at the time of this writing so current standings will change by 0.5 games when that game is complete.  Dodgers are in 2'nd place, 2 games behind.  3'rd place Rockies are 5.5 games back. The 4'th place Giants trail by 6 games and the Padres lost to the Braves 1-0 to trail by 7 games.

Chris Stratton tries to end the series and road trip on a winning note against rookie LHP Caleb Ferguson tomorrow afternoon.

  1. Bumgarner: While I'm not saying he's a sharp as he'd normally be, some of the beat writers have been twittering PitchFx data. Seems one of the big issues is that crew is screwing with Bumgarner and squeezing him hard on the strike zone.

  2. We realize how dependent the Giants have been on Crawford's offense -- in the 1-5 run Craw has been 3-24 (.125/.214/.125) with 2 RBIs and NO XBHs.
Losing 2 by 1 run and 3 by 2 runs, the Giants have been close but no cigar.
    It's not just Crawford, though.
In the last 8 games (2-6 record) the Giants are 10-57 (.175) with RISP, 0-8 in the 2 games with the Dodgers (0-5 yesterday -- oh! what if Belt's would-have-been-3-run whack in the 5th had been fair!)
All in not doom-and-gloom, these things are cyclical -- let's hope we haven't reached the collapse of 2016's 2nd half.

    1. While going 0-5 w RISP yesterday, Giants got 3 hits in the 5th inning but none with RISP. That's not real easy to do without a DP or pick off.
In the "it can't get any worse" news (Reuters):
The San Francisco Giants will be without another key member of their infield for a few days this week as shortstop Brandon Crawford goes on paternity leave.
Crawford's wife, Jalynne, is due to give birth to the couple's fourth child.
