Mitch Delfino, 3B. B-R, T-R. 6'2", 210 lbs. DOB: 1/13/1991.
Low A: .270/.324/.413, 13 HR, 35 BB, 76 K, 477 AB.
Delfino was drafted out of Cal in the 20'th round of the 2012 draft after hitting .355 his junior season. He's a bit of a hacker, but that helps keep his K rate down. He puts the ball in play with some power behind it. He was promoted to San Jose for the Cal League playoffs. I saw him play in San Bernardino where he rapped out a couple of line drive base hits in one game where the rest of the SJ lineup was flailing.
He should be the starting 3B for SJ in 2014. I see him as a bit of a sleeper, a guy nobody is paying attention to who could surprise in the future.

I like Delfino. The fact that he's a Cal guy doesn't hurt his cause either. He's got a powerful swing, and I too could see him having a breakout season in San Jose... maybe Devin Harris type numbers? I don't think he'll replicate Adam Duvall's Cal League display, but 20+ HR certainly seems within reach. Don't know much about his defense though. What have you heard?
ReplyDeleteI don't really know anything about his D.

ReplyDeleteSeen Delfino play at Cal several times. D looks to be average, good arm, range okay. His D will not hold him back from what I have seen. Certainly better than Duvall. Plus he has that Cal grad thing going on, where Cal guys seem to be able to rake in the Bigs.
