In addtion to releasing Wendell Fairley, the Giants released several other minor leaguers from the organization, some of them a bit surprising: RHP Demondre Arnold, RHP Keith Bilodeau, RHP Matt Graham, RHP Tyler Hess, RHP Reiner Roibal, LHP Zack Edgington, LHP Gaspar Santiago, LHP Jason Stevenson, C Rey Duran, 2B Jose Cuevas, OF Nick Liles, OF Jarrad Page.
Of that group, I am most surprised by Arnold who I included in my Top 50 prospects list. There were possibly a couple of others. I will have to check. I thought they might be a bit more patient with Jarrad Page, a former football player, who has a nice toolbox, but maybe not enough time to develop them. I've seen Nick Liles play and he is really good. He's another lesson on just how crazy hard it is to make it in professional baseball. Jason Stevenson was a feel-good story. An older guy with a dream to redeem himself that came up short, as most of them do.

Am kinda surprised with Matt Graham. I know he hasnt been productive in his career so far but him being a high round pick (6th) and the money the Giants invested, thought maybe they would have given him one last chance this year. Nick Liles has a nice hit tool but no pop and hes a LF.
ReplyDeleteSurprised about Arnold as well. He might have been headstrong though. He had a good first half in Augusta despite not good peripherals, then it caught up to him big time. You walk a lot of guys, you usually pay the price eventually.
ReplyDeleteBetancourt gets his release. Let the rumors begin! The beat guys have caught on. Whiny bloggers won't be far behind. Comedy gold.
I am surprised as well, he felt he was doing well and was learning a lot and only wanted a fair chance. Hopefully someother team will recognize natural talent and hone to develop his skills and pick him. Prayers are being sent.
Deletethese guys have nothing to fear. either the marlins or the yanks will pick them up

Anonymous I surely hope you are right, NO I pray you are right. Arnold has been playing since 4 years old and this was his life long dream. Being thankful for the opportunity but puzzled at the same time, he is activlely seeking a new home. If he seems ungrateful he was not, this is just a new life and you must learn how to play the game with all the other players. Marline, Yankees, Reds, Brewers, somebody, please give him a chance.
