The Giants looked like they had this one won so many times, but couldn't hold a lead to save their lives as the pitching failed to take advantage of one of the best offensive games by Giants hitters in recent memory. Key Lines:
Nori Aoki- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .310. Aoki as back in the leadoff spot after Pagan was scratched for a painful knee. If Pagan is still having this much trouble with the knee, I'm thinking he should maybe go on the DL and try to get it completely well.
Buster Posey- 2 for 6, HR(16). BA= .327. LOL Buster Posey trying to keep up with Brandon Crawford for the team HR lead.
Brandon Crawford- 2 for 5, 2 HR(18), BB. BA= .266. Brian Sabean predicted a breakout season for Crawford and look what we have here!
Ehire Adrianza- 1 for 3, 2 BB. BA= .143. With Joe Panik going on the DL with a bad back, Adrianza will battle Kelby Tomlinson for PT at 2B plus he will spell Brandon Crawford at SS. You knew Panik had to go on the DL when we learned yesterday that Aoki was the back up 2B. Hope this is not a long term debilitating injury for Panik.
Kelby Tomlinson- 1 for 1. BA= 1.000. A successful MLB debut for the current favorite Giants prospect. Even better, his family was there and got to see it. He came around to score what appeared to be the winning run in the top of the 12'th, but the Giants gave it back in the bottom of the inning and lost the game.
Matt Cain- 5 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.91. Cain pitched 5 innings of shutout ball while the Giants batters built a 6-0 lead. The 1 K maybe should have been a clue that this could unravel pretty fast, and it did in the 6'th as Cain pitched to 4 batters and failed to retire any. The hits included a 3 run dinger. You kind of had to have an uneasy feeling about this game after that turn of events.
Hunter Strickland- 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 0 K. ERA= 1.86. Strickland give up his first dinger of the season.
Santiago Casilla- 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 0 K, BS(5). ERA= 3.32. Casilla looked better in his last appearance but has been shaky for about a month. He gave up the tying dinger to none other than AJ Pierzynski here.
Ryan Vogelsong- 0.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K. ERA= 4.16. Brandon Crawford allowed the first batter of the bottom of the 12'th to get on via a throwing error. Vogey, perhaps distracted by the error, then gave up the game winning dinger to someone named Adonis Garcia. Adonis!
The Loss dropped the Giants to a full 3 games behind the Dodgers for the lead in the NL West. It also dropped them 0.5 games behind the Cubs in the race for the last Wild Card playoff spot.
Jake Peavy tries to get the Giants back on the winning track tomorrow evening facing Shelby Miller.

Game Wrap 8/2/2015: Rangers 2 Giants 1
The Giants got a QS from Mike Leake in his Giants debut, but their bats fell limp against Rangers lefty Martin Perez, who did not look like the same pitcher who got torched by the Yankees in his previous start. A 9'th inning rally fell short on a controversial call by 3B coach, Roberto Kelly and the Giants left Texas down 1-2 on their road trip from Hell instead of being up 2-1. Key Lines:
Mike Leake- 6.1 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.52. Pretty typical Leake start. He pitched out of a couple of early jams, got a couple of GIDP's to help him, but then gave up a 2 run dinger to Josh Hamilton in the 6'th that was the difference in the ballgame. Solid start from Leake, but this is the Giants he's pitching for now. 1 game after scoring 9 in a Cole Hamels start, they nearly get no-hit by Martin Perez. As Vin Scully would say, "go figure!"
Roberto Kelly- OK, here's the ballgame. With the bases loaded and 1 out in the 9'th inning, Buster Posey singles to LF. Josh Hamilton has a cannon in LF and was playing a step in. He had the ball as Aoki hit 3B. Kelly put up the stop sign. Hamilton's throw sailed over everybody to the backstop, but Aoki stayed at 3B. That brought up Hunter Pence who you had to feel pretty good about in that situation. He's a clutch hitter who is fast enough to frequently beat out DP balls. He GIDP! I'm with Baggs on this one. Kelly made the right call. Baseball is a game of odds. They did not break the Giants way in this one.
The Loss dropped the Giants 2.5 games behind the NL West leading Dodgers and into a tie with the Cubs for the final Wild Card playoff spot.
The Giants now move on from the oven into the sauna in ATL with Matt Cain facing Mike Foltynewicz.

Ty Blach(LHP)- 5 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 9/1. ERA= 4.27.
5 of the 6 runs off Blach came in the 5'th inning. Don't know what that means, if anything.

AA Binghampton Mets edged out the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-5:
Rando Moreno(SS)- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .288.

Ricky Oropesa(1B)- 2 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .257.
Tyler Beede(RHP)- 5.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 4 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 5.51.
Tyler Mizenko(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, GO/AO= 6/0. ERA= 1.56.
I wonder if fatigue is playing a role in Beede's decreased command? In several games, his BB's have come later in the game when he appeared to be tiring. Mizenko has become quite the GB machine.

Game Wrap 8/1/2015: Giants 9 Rangers 7
The Giants offense picked up the pitching and outscored the Rangers despite facing the newly acquired Cole Hamels in his first game with the Ranger and his first since his no-hitter with the Phillies. Key Lines:
Joe Panik- 2 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .309. Panik had kind of a rough game yesterday so this was a nice bounceback effort.
Matt Duffy- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .305. Duffy seems to be doing this almost effortlessly now.
Buster Posey- 3 for 5, 2B, HR(15). BA= .328. Just when things were looking grim for the Giants as the Rangers took a 5-3 lead, Buster got part of if back with his HR. He still trails Brandon Crawford by one for the team lead.
Hunter Pence- 2 for 5, HR(6). BA= .301. Pence would undoubtedly be leading the team in HR's had he not been injured most of the first half. His dinger was the go-ahead run in the top of the 11'th inning.
Brandon Belt- 2 for 4, 2 HR(12), BB. BA= .277. Belt found the range on his longball and ended up with 2 dingers.
Chris Heston- 4.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.24. Not Heston's best effort, but this stadium is a real SOB to pitch in.
Yusmeiro Petit- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.23. Petit stopped the bleeding and gave his team a chance to get back in it.
Hunter Strickland- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.61. Strickland was filthy with a terrific 4 pitch mix, FB, cutter, slider, change. He might be the Giants most lights out reliever right now.
Santiago Casilla- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(27). ERA= 2.89. Not quite a clean inning, but the hit came after 2 outs and he blew Prince Fielder away to end the game. Rangers TV feed showed a stat that the Giants have the fewest Blown Saves of any team in baseball with 5.
The Win enabled the Giants to keep pace with the Dodgers, 1.5 games behind the leaders in the NL West. The also remain 1 game ahead of the Cubs in the race for the final Wild Card playoff spot.
Newcomer Mike Leake tries for a series win facing Martin Perez in an afternoon game in Arlington Texas, which should be illegal(the timing of the game, that is).

AAA Sacramento River Cats defeated the Las Vegas 51's 5-1:
Kelby Tomlinson(SS)- 2 for 4. BA= .323.
Mac Williamson(RF)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .279.
Jarrett Parker(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(16). BA= .266.
Curtis Partch(RHP)- 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 3.54.
Steven Okert(LHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.50.
Josh Osich(LHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Not sure if this was a bullpen game or if Partch is being tried as a starter, but that is an impressive 4 innings. Okert has sort of disappeared from the radar but has a nice inning here. Osich continues to impress. Mac is 8 for 22 since returning from Team USA. Kelby continues to prep for a utility role, playing SS tonight.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels beat the Binghampton Mets 6-1:
Myles Schroder(LF)- 3 for 5. BA= .254.
Rando Moreno(SS)- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .285.
Austin Slater(2B)- 3 for 4, BB. BA= .313.
Hunter Cole(RF)- 1 for 3, 2 BB. BA= .303.
Mitch Delfino(3B)- 2 for 4. BA= .260.
Joe Biagini(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 2.22.
Jose Casilla(RHP)- 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 1.51.
Kyle Crick(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.87.
Aren't Slater and Cole both in their first full seasons? Impressive! Biagini pitched to 1 batter in the 2'nd inning. Gotta wonder if there's an injury involved. Remember when Casilla was an exciting young prospect coming out of the DSL? His career kind of stalled out and he is now 26 years old. He's having a fine season. Is he a prospect again? Not a clean inning, but a pretty good one from Crick.

Ray Black(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.60.
Dan Slania(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, Save(15). ERA= 2.87.
Dunning looks all the way back from whatever injury he had. Probably should move back up to AAA. Slania has quietly had a very good season as the SJ closer. He looked really good the 1 inning I saw him pitch.

DSL Giants edged out the Red Sox1 3-2:
Robert Antunez(2B, 19 yo)- 1 for 2, 2 BB, SB(19). BA= .300.
Francisco Medina(3B, 17 yo)- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .273.
Melvin Adon(RHP, 21 yo)- 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 2.50.
Not sure what to make of several first year pitchers who are 20+ yo for the DSL Giants. They are pitching well, but are they prospects?
Kelby Tomlinson(SS)- 2 for 4. BA= .323.
Mac Williamson(RF)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .279.
Jarrett Parker(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(16). BA= .266.

Game Wrap 7/31/2015: Rangers 6 Giants 3
It was a hot night in Texas in more ways than one as the Rangers jumped on Madison Bumgarner for 6 runs in the first 2 innings and the Giants were never able to mount a comeback after a promising start to the game. Key Lines:
Nori Aoki- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .312. Aoki looked like he was back to pre-injury form rapping out 2 hits including a double he pulled into RF. He batted 9'th in a DH lineup, but I have to think he should be leading off if he is all the way back.
Brandon Crawford- 1 for 4, HR(16). BA= .268. This one just made the score a little closer, but Crawford is have quite a season, isn't he?
Madison Bumgarner- 7 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 0 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 3.39. I couldn't tell from watching on TV is Bummy's idea at the beginning of the game was to elevate the FB, or if he just had poor command early. Either way, that is not a recipe for success on a hot night in a bandbox stadium. There was one double by Andrus in the first inning that took off on Aoki and a dinger that landed on the top of the LF wall that both probably would have been caught on most nights at AT&T. Bummy's frustration boiled over in the 4'th inning after Delino Deshields dramatically flung his bat after popping up. Bummy seems to think that when a hitter does that, he is saying he should have crushed the pitch and Bummy does not like that. The two teams gathered in the middle of the infield for a screaming session, mostly between Bummy and Beltre. Those are alway fun in the middle of the Dog Days!
Kruk and Kuip- OK I think this is interesting. I watch a lot of Giants TV broadcasts and I rarely hear Kruk and Kuip disagree and even more rarely get short with each other. Also in the 4'th inning, Rougned Odor took a late slide into Joe Panik on a hit-and-run force out at 2B which appeared to come this close to buckling Panik's knees sideways, which is not a good thing. Kuip was over in the radio booth and Kruk was doing color with Dave Flemming. Kruk was all over Odor, calling it a dirty play as well as criticizing Panik for being willing to take too much contact at 2B thus endangering his health. Kruk then started to put words in Kuip's mouth by saying that the old 2B was going crazy over the play in the radio booth. The camera panned over to Kuip who was looking as cool as a cucumber. Flem commented that Kuip didn't look too upset over there and Kruk laughed it off by saying they should have shown him immediately after the play.
When Kuip got back to the TV booth in the 7'th, there had obviously been some discussion between innings. When they came back on air, Kuip rather vehemently said he really didn't see what the big deal was. He did not think Odor made a dirty slide and he did not think Panik had any choice but to stand in there on. His point was that with Odor running on the hit-and-run, there is almost certainly going to be contact at 2B and it is just one of those things. Maybe it's just me, but I thought Kuip sounded more than just a bit annoyed by the whole discussion and I wonder if he reacted to Kruk trying to speak for him earlier while he was in he radio booth? Anyway, it was an interesting exchange and of the type I don't hear between them very often if ever.
The Loss left the Giants 1.5 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West as the Bad Guys topped the Angels in a freeway series game. The Giants are 1.5 games ahead of the Cubs for the final Wild Card Playoff spot.
Chris Heston goes against newly acquired Cole Hamels tonight. The Giants jumped on Hamels in Philly earlier this year, but Hamels is coming off a no-hitter in his last Philly start.
Nori Aoki- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .312. Aoki looked like he was back to pre-injury form rapping out 2 hits including a double he pulled into RF. He batted 9'th in a DH lineup, but I have to think he should be leading off if he is all the way back.
