Five shutout innings from Kai-Wei Teng in bulk-inning role was the major contribution to a crisp wire-to-wire Giants win. Key Lines:
Rafael Devers 1B- 1 for 3, HR(21), BB, R, RBI. BA= .255. Devers crushed a drive to R-CF just to the left of Triples Alley apex to give the Giants their first run in the first inning.
Casey Schmitt 2B- 1 for 4, HR(7), R, 2 RBI. BA= .249. Schmitt caught a hanging slider and launched it over the LF wall for a 2-run HR in the 6'th inning to give the Giants a 4-0 lead. Schmitt is looking more like next year's starting 2B.
Patrick Bailey C- 2 for 4, 3B, RBI. BA= .217. The RBI came on a single in the 8'th inning to drive in Jung Hoo Lee. Patty Barrels is now hitting .320 over his last 7 games, .269 over his last 15 and .263 over his last 30 easing early season fears he might never hit again.
Dominic Smith DH- 2 for 4. BA= .279. Smith did not figure into the scoring but extended his hit streak to 12 games in which he is batting .366.
Matt Chapman 3B- 2 for 4, 2B, RBI. BA= .232. Chapman's RBI came in the first inning on a bloop single to CF. The double was roped to LF but caromed back to the fielder which kept Dom Smith from scoring and both runners were left stranded.
Kai-Wei Teng RHP- 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 5.40. Teng was obviously less amped for this appearance, had great command of the fastball with a slider and changeup as plus secondary pitches. I can definitely envision him as a #4 or 5 SP next season who eats a lot of innings. He's a big man with an easy looking motion.
Matt Gage LHP(0.00) opened the game with as scoreless first inning. Joey Lucchesi LHP(2.29), Jose Butto' RHP(3.33) and Tristan Beck RHP(5.40) pitched a scoreless inning each to finish up.
Carson Whisenhunt LHP tries to keep the winning going tomorrow afternoon facing Brad Lord RHP who seems to be a reliever who moved into a starting role. He comes in with an ERA of 3.42.
Should mention that Drew Gilbert OF played in his first MLB game tonight going 0 for 4, but he played a flawless RF including a great sliding catch down by the RF line.
