Landen Roupp and the bullpen gave everything we could reasonably expect but it wasn't enough as Shohei Ohtani RHP and Emmet Sheehan RHP shut down the Giants lineup. Key Lines:
Landen Roupp RHP- 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K's, 7/2 GO/AO. ERA= 3.27. That's a mighty fine line and against one of the most talented lineups in MLB. The unearned run came in the 2'nd inning as a result of a throwing error by Willy Adames allowing the lead runner to advance to 3B on an IF single. Roupp's stuff and command seems to be getting better with each start.
Joey Lucchesi LHP(3.00), Ryan Walker RHP(4.21) and Tyler Rogers RHP(1.55) pitched a scoreless inning each.
The Giants run scored on a one-out, bases-loaded Sac Fly by Rafael Devers DH in the 8'th inning. The threat ended when Matt Chapman 3B couldn't deliver the 2-out hit.
Robby Ray LHP tries for a series win in the final game of the official first half tomorrow afternoon against Yoshinobu Yamamoto RHP. TV is on ROKU.
MLB Amateur Draft starts at 3:00 PM tomorrow afternoon. Christmas in July!
Doc, did you see reports that Devers has a herniated disc? The one I saw said Boston didn’t bother to run an MRI on him, but the Giants did after he got here and noticed something was obviously hurting. Dirty pool by the Red Sox in peddling damaged goods?
ReplyDeleteGeorge Kontos seemed to lay blame on Devers post game, because, he didn't drive in both runs?
ReplyDeleteWhat a start by Landen Roupp. Bullpen was solid too. Yaz almost made a spectacular catch. Hopefully with more experience Ramos gets more comfortable fielding with his back to the plate, and knowing where the fence is when tracking the ball on the run. Was upset about the Giants hitting, but the Hated Ones didn't light up the board either. Hopefully Devers and Adames bats start producing more.
ReplyDeleteMaybe just me, but I think I'd prefer a little more than a sacrifice fly from Devers in that position. Bases loaded and one out? I guess it's better than what the team had been doing, thus far. But I would've preferred a hit in that situation.
ReplyDeleteI am sure Devers would have preferred a hit there too, maybe even a home run? If he gets the ball in the air with something on it, several good things can happen the worst of which is a sac fly.
DeleteI mean sheesh! This is a tough crowd!
DeleteAnd if we're going to point fingers at someone in the lineup, by all means let's point them at the one guy who actually drove in a run!
DeleteNo doubt we can agree, for the situation presented for Devers, and the time in the game, and the cash he's being paid to perform in such situations, Devers could've shortened his stroke a bit for a result that better benefited the team. Not sure if he was up there looking for a homerun. I'm glad he got one run in, at least. But a 2-1 loss looks the same in the standings as 2-0. On this point we can most certainly come to a consensus.
DeleteNo, I don't agree that Devers should have shortened his stroke.
DeleteWe need to monitor Devers' health after the break very closely. I think Devers is gonna need an IL stint if things don't improve after the break, I just want the guy to get healthy.
ReplyDeleteAgree.
