A bloop single, a walk, a trapped liner and a groundout produced a run for the Giants in the first inning. That was all Tyler Beede and a makeshift bullpen needed to secure a series win agains the Hated Ones. Key Lines:
Mike Yastrzemski LF- 1 for 3, 2 BB. BA= .270. YtY led off the game with a bloop single and eventually scored the only run of the game. Oh, and I guess I'm late to the party, but Pablo Sandoval reportedly had trouble pronouncing YtY's last name so started calling him "Glass of Whiskey" and it stuck. There's a Glass of Whiskey T-shirt with YtY's image on it. I think I'll stick with Yaz the Younger.
Tyler Beede RHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 5.33. Beede had pretty good command of a very good 95 MPH fastball and it got him through 5 innings. I couldn't believe it when Boch left him in to face Cody Bellinger with 2 outs, the bases loaded and a LHP warmed up in the bullpen in the 5'th inning. Bochy's faith was rewarded with a pop-up to LF to end the inning. I guess at this point in the season, the outcome of the game doesn't matter except to us Dodger Haters and Boch needed to try to instill some fortitude in the kid, which is very unselfish of Bochy since he isn't going to be around next season and is going for 2000 career wins.
Shaun Anderson RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 5.22. I can see Shaun Anderson being a better RP than SP. He was throwing 95 MPH heat which is 2-3 MPH harder than when he starts.
Tyler Rogers RHP- 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, GO/AO= 2/0. ERA= 1.23. Tyler Rogers is doing his thing at the MLB level with a GB/FB of 4.33 which is darn awesome in the launch angle/4-seam FB era.
Jandel Gustave RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K, Save(1). ERA= 1.86. Jandel Gustave has to be on the short list of favorites to be the Giants Closer next season.

Game Wrap 9/6/2019: Giants 5 Dodgers 4
Mauricio Dubon had a night most ballplayers can only dream about and the Giants held off the Dodgers to take the first game of the weekend series in LA. Key Lines:
Mike Yastrzemski PH/LF- 1 for 2, 2B. BA= .269. YtY gave the Giants their first lead in the 5'th with a bases-loaded double that hit the base of the wall in R-CF. He is 6 for 20 over his last 7 games. He's definitely been one of the great storylines from this season.
Mauricio Dubon SS- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(2). BA= .320. Dubon doubled and homered off none other than Clayton Kershaw which would have been a night in itself, but he later singled in 2 runs which proved to be the difference in the ballgame. He had 3 RBI's in all. He pulled an inside cutter that was up and caught too much of the plate for the HR ball. It hooked sharply at the end but caught the LF foul pole. The kid seems to know how to turn on a pitch. We'll see what happens when pitchers catch on to that.
Jeff Samardzija RHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.64. Shark couldn't keep AJ Pollock in the yard, but it was a QS and considering the team he was facing and the fact he outpitched Kershaw, we'll take it.
Clayton Kershaw LHP- 4 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.06. It's always fun to see a Dodger get frustrated. When Dave Roberts came out to get him in the 5'th with 2 on 0 outs, Kershaw had thrown 99 pitches, so it was the right move. Kershaw didn't seem to see it that way and asked why he was being taken out, then tried to break his foot on an ice chest in the dugout on the way to the clubhouse.

I apologize for an inappropriate choice of words in responding to a comment about Evan Longoria. I went back and edited my response with more appropriate wording. I do still strongly disagree with the comment and have to say I am frustrated by what seems to be a prevalent attitude toward Longo which I believe is demonstrably untrue and unfair to him. fWAR is not a perfect metric for either offense or defense but it's a whole lot better than judging defense on one play of questionable difficulty. In addition, my own eyeball test agrees with fWAR that Longo is a good defensive 3B for whom it would be extremely difficult to find a better replacement. I still believe the comment was a cheap shot which is why it drew such a strong reaction which I now regret.
Look, I am not crazy about his contract either, especially the length. If Zaidi can trade him over the winter, he probably should but if not, Bobby Evans was able to whittle the contract down enough in the trade that it's not even close to being an albatross contract and never will be. Longo has arguably been the Giants best player this season and continues to be one of the top defensive 3B in baseball. I will not allow my blog to become a forum for bashing any player let alone one who might be the best player on the roster.

Welp! THAT wasn't good! Logan Webb was savaged for 8 runs(7 earned) in 2.2 IP while the Giants lineup managed just 4 singles in a brutal beatdown. Key Lines: None. There is just nothing more to day about this game. Hope for better times in LA.

Game Wrap 9/4/2019: Giants 9 Cardinals 8
Madison Bumgarner got knocked around for 6 runs in 5 innings and the bullpen faltered again, but Kevin Pillar capped a prodigious offense with a gargantuan blast to LF in the 8'th inning and Will Smith held on to save the game. I gotta say, just the fact this Giants team is capable of winning games like this with some regularity make this season a lot of fun to watch. Key Lines:
Mike Yastrzemski LF/RF- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(19). BA= .271. YtY is riding another hot streak hitting .333 with 2 HR's in his last 7 games. He is 4'th in OPS among NL Rookies with more than 300 PA's.
Buster Posey C- 3 for 4, 2 BB. BA= .257. Buster reaches base 5 times and scores one run. He is hitting .300 with 9 singles in 30 AB over his last 7 games.
Brandon Crawford SS- 1 for 4, HR(11), BB. BA= .229. Crawford's 3-run dinger gave the Giants a short-lived 7-4 lead in the 6'th inning. Despite the HR, he's hitting just .143 over his last 7 games, but .292 over his last 15.
Kevin Pillar CF- 4 for 5, HR(21). BA= .262. Pillar continues his career year in front of our eyes. When he came to the plate with a runner on in the 8'th and the Giants trailing by a run, I was actually pretty confident he was going to hit a HR. He's been that good in the clutch this season.
Jaylin Davis RF- 1 for 3, BB. BA= .333. A successful MLB debut for Jaylin Davis who got the call up earlier in the day. His first career hit was the IF variety, but I'm sure he's very pleased with it.
Madison Bumgarner LHP- 5 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.81. When I looked up Gameday as I left work, I was Bummy was perfect through 6 innings but had 0 K's. I've learned that is not a good sign ever since I listened to a game in the 60's where Juan Marichal was perfect through 6 innings but with 0 K's then got shelled for something like 6 runs in the 7'th inning.
