The Giants lineup showed signs of life but another failure to produce a Quality Start and subsequent bullpen failure doomed this one. Key Lines:
Willy Adames SS- 2 for 5, 3B, HR(7), 2 R, RBI. E(10). BA= .239. Great game at the plate but the E-6 set up the go-ahead unearned run and the HR in the 9'th was too little, too late and no cause for celebration.
Casey Schmitt 2B- 2 for 5, HR(12), R, 2 RBI. BA= Schmitt continues to rake. He started at 2B in this one facing the tough lefty.
Matt Chapman 3B- 0 for 1, 3 BB, R. BA= .234. First three batters in the lineup reached base 7 times in 14 PA's.
Rafael Devers 1B- 1 for 4, 2B, RBI. BA= .246. Devers laser beam split the gap in R-CF to drive in Chapman from 1B. He also struck out with the bases loaded and two outs in the 5'th inning.
Bryce Eldridge DH- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .178. Eldridge started the game against a tough lefty and doubled in his first AB. He also hit the ball hard in his second AB.
Eric Haase C- 2 for 3, HR(3), R, RBI. BA= .286. Giants first two runs scored on solo HR's.
Tyler Mahle RHP- 5 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 6.04. Mahle was a gamer but this was the 5'th game in a row in which the Giants SP failed to record a Quality Start. That starts to tax the bullpen.
Trevor McDonald RHP tries to be the stopper and stave off a sweep in the afternoon series finale facing Mike Soroka RHP who comes in 6-2 with a 3.27 ERA.
It's hard to understand Mahle's poor pitching. He started 16 Games for Texas last season with an ERA of 2.18. The Giants surprisingly talked in the off-season about how high they were on their young starting pitching. Maybe it's time to pull Mahle from the rotation and go with their youngsters starting with McDonald and maybe Whisenhunt wh has been pitching well. It's time to show some faith in them.
ReplyDeleteJ-Rod is just not cutting it, ditch the three catchers for McCray, he may not hit the broad side of the barn but, he can at least defend the outfield. The empty ballpark may be a sign of things to come this Summer at Oracle.
ReplyDeleteYes, a few miniscule good things and SCHMIDT is good to watch but losing 5 in a row to the Dbacks just reflects how poorly Buster and GMZM have built this team..SUbpar SP, subpar Bullpen, worst OF in MLB, soso vets and..A Manager that bats Harrison Bader #5..Then again, he is only working with what the GM has given him and when the 5 OF's (Bader/Rod/Bericoto/Brennan/Gilbert) you can play are 5 guys that, despite their hard earned celebrations, really should never ever be in a starting lineup and probably not even in the Major Leagues you really don't have much of a chance to do anything but win a few games here and there
ReplyDeleteAnd do we really need to see more of MAHLE (way to go Buster!) with WHIZ finally performing consistently in AAA..?

Eldridge’s steady improvement with pitch recognition and discipline continues to impress. He might just make it.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, when Lee and Ramos come back they can find some medical issue with Bader and put him on the DL. And we have this joker for two years. I stopped watching last night after Adames swung at a third strike that was a FOOT out of the strike zone. The line-up on paper looks to be formidable, but yeah, the front office has whiffed big-time on their pitching acquisition. And there is not much they can do about it right now. Heck, they can’t even admit it out loud.
