19. Argenis Cayama RHP. DOB: 9/15/2006. 6' 1", 180 lbs. Rule 5 Eligible Dec. 2028.
2025(ACL): 1-1, 2.25, 48 IP, 10.31 K/9, 3.38 BB/9, 3.32 GB/FB.
2025(A): 1-0, 8.16, 14.1 IP, 4.40 K/9, 6.28 BB/9, 2.69 GB/FB.
Cayama is drawing some national buzz with MLB Pipeline rating him the Giants #9 prospect. Put up elite numbers in the ACL before a late season stumble after promotion to A San Jose. Cayama is praised for an advanced feel for pitching. He leads with both 4 and 2 seam fastballs which range from 92-97 MPH, a tight slider and a promising changeup. Even after his promotion he maintained elite groundball rates. He should be assigned to A San Jose to start 2026 and will try to master that level at age 19.

ReplyDeleteNewest BaseballAmerica has 4 Giants in their Top 100 and it doesn't include Luis Hernández (yet).
ReplyDelete18. Bryce Eldridge, 1B
30. Josuar Gonzalez, SS
87. Bo Davidson, OF
98. Jhonny Level, SS
Weren't 3 of the 4 signed under the previous GM/President?
Even Gonzalez was found by Joe Salermo two years before the official signing last January.
And, according to Google A.I., "The Giants had been scouting Luis Hernández for several years prior to his signing, with reports indicating they followed him since he was 12 years old."
All four players traded for Rafael Devers were also signed by FZ as were most of the players on the present team, notably excepting Logan Webb, Heliot Ramos, Willy Adames, and a few others.
The improvement in the Giants international operation actually started under Bobby Evans. To his credit, it continued under FZ. Hopefully it will continue under Buster Posey. Bobby Evans did some good things as GM and I felt he got the bad end of a raw deal for trying to get the most out of the core that won 3 championships. While I think FZ had to go due to the absolute chaos in the Giants clubhouse, he also did some good things. In spite of the failures of multiple first round draft picks, he left the Giants farm system in better shape than he found it. Buster does not have an easy job going forward to try to win with the core he has assembled while at the same time developing and giving opportunities to the prospects in an improved farm system.
DeleteIf all I ever did, and no more, was to quote you, people would think I was very smart...
DeleteHa ha! Thank you for the kind words, but I encourage folks to think of their own words to speak and write.
DeleteOne of the Cardinals' writers thinks the Giants might include Josuar Gonzales in a trade for 2 years of Brendan Donovan – what do you think?
ReplyDeleteAnd what if there is no 2nd year?
It's a close call but Donovan seems like a perfect fit and it's for 2 years. Giants have a surplus of young SS's in the system and can continue adding more and Gonzalez is still several years away. If Gonzalez gets them 2 years of Brandon Donovan, I guess I would do it.
